I would love to play in a pick-up game with LeBron James where he was playing with playoff level intensity just to see how far the gap is between the best player in the world and regular guys.
I played against Birdman Andersen at 24 Hour once. He was playing at what appeared to be 30% effort level and was destroying people. Nothing but dunks and three pointers.
I played against Birdman when he was 19 or 20... you have probably seen and ridiculed my story.
I played in hoop-it-up top level a few times (Waco). It is amazing what some of those guys can do. Most of the teams we played would have one guy that played NBA... or at least claimed to have played NBA.
I have a guy on my church league team that played in the NBA (10 day contract). He is now 40 but the guy is still a freak.6'7", 250 and 10% BF, shot about 50% from behind the arch for us this year. Could not get him to stay down low.
However; NBA "big men" are not as impressive in pickup games compared to guards (still impressive).
I have played against former D1 guards that amaze me more than the former NBA players I have played. Most of the NBA guys were "big men". There is so much more competition for a guard position than the others.
