If you had a chance to win the scoring title on the last day of the season, someone saying you're the second most overpaid player in the league is a joke. He's not at LeBron or Durant's level any more but he's still pretty damn good: See Game 6 vs. Denver.

Dirk and Deron being in there is pretty damn stupid too.

Dirk Nowitzki has been on the roster of the Dallas Mavericks since 1998, and Berri describes his performance during most of those years as “above average.” Today, however, he characterizes the 33-year-old German as overpaid.
Yes when you look at Dirk's career up to now the best description is "above average"

List is ridiculous for including Kobe.

If anything, the guy is underpaid for the value he brings to the Lakers organization, not even counting his on-court skills.

He is still a top 5 player in the league even after being in the league literally half his life.

Kobe is valuable, but his contract within the context of the salary cap and when combined with Pau's salary and the Laker's organization philosophy of not having rookie contracts is killing their depth.

Salary Cap was about $58 million, lux tax threshold about $70.3 million.

Top 3 salaries for various teams that have 3 players combine for more than $40 million in salary.

Lakers: Kobe, Pau, Bynum - $59 million
Knicks: CA, AS, Chandler - $50 m
Heat: $47.5
Celtics: PP, KG, Rondo/Jesus S. - $46.5
Spurs: $46 m
Grizzlies: Randolph, Gay, Gasol - $43
Hawks: JJ, Josh Smith, Horford - $42
Mavs: Dirk, Terry, Kidd - $40 m
OKC: KD, Perkins, Westbrook -$28

Terrible list. Only 3 of the 10 guys he lists actually belong on there. The worst contracts/most overpaid (i.e. the best amnesty candidates) guys relative to how good they actually are:

1. Rashard Lewis - still owed 1 year, $24M
2. Tyrus Thomas - still owed 3 years, $26M
3. Brendan Haywood - still owed 3 years, $27M
4. Carlos Boozer - still owed 3 years, $47M
5. Joe Johnson - still owed 4 years, $89M
6. Hedo Turkoglu - still owed 2 years, $23M
7. Richard Jefferson - still owed 2 years, $21M
8. Amare Stoudemire - still owed 3 years, $65M
9. Josh Childress - still owed 3 years, $17M
10.Ben Gordon - still owed 2 years, $25M

Dishonorable Mention:
Emeka Okafor - still owed 2 years, $28M
DeSagana Diop - still owed 1 year, $7.4M
Al Harrington - still owed 3 years, $21M
Andris Biedrins - still owed 2 years, $18M
John Salmons - still owed 2 years, $15M
Metta Peace - still owed 2 years, $15M
Andrea Bargnani - still owed 3 years, $33M

That is a whole lot of money to be paying all these jokers.

Harrington and Artest don't have terrible contracts. Harrington was 14 and 7 last year, and Artest is a defensive stalwart in addition to whatever points he gets. 7 mil might be a little high, but it's not awful, not compared to some of those other guys.

The worst contracts are guys like
Joe Johnson (18mm)
Gilbert Arenas (19.5mm)
Stoudemire (18mm)
Baron Davis (15mm)
Chauncy Billups (14mm)
Antawn Jamison (15mm)

Duncan and Garnett are both over 21mm, which is pretty high for their statistical production but you can at least make the argument that they bring championship experience, multiple skills, defense, and intangibles to the table.

He's not terribly overpaid, but I'm just not as high on him as other people. He's a 7 footer who only gets me about 5 rebounds, 44% FG shooting, and doesn't get many free throws. He's a 3rd or 4th option on a championship team, and I don't like paying 3rd or 4th options $10M+ per year.

I haven't researched it, but I would bet that pretty much every team has 3 players making 10mm+, and most have 4. The exceptions will be very young and/or very awful teams.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Playoff team (players making 10mm+)
Boston (4)
SA (4)
Miami (3)
LAL (3)
Memphis (3)
Atlanta (3)
Chicago (3) - Rose still on rookie contract
Orlando (3)
New York (3)
Dallas (2)
Indiana (2)
LAC (2) - Griffin still on rookie contract, Billups still getting paid by NY
Philadelphia (2) - Evan Turner, Jrue Holiday still on rookie contracts
Utah (1)
OKC (1) - Ibaka, Westbrook, Hardin still on rookie contracts
Denver (0)

9/16 playoff teams have at least 3 10mm+ players.
4/8 second round teams have at least 3 10mm+ players, and all 4 that didn't have at least 1 bigtime contributor on a rookie contract.
3 of the 4 conference finals teams had 3 or 4 players at 10mm or more, and the 4th has 3 stars on rookie contracts.

Basically, playoff teams either have 3 or 4 established stars making over 10mm or they have multiple stars on rookie contracts. If you want an established #3 option, you're going to have to pay more than 10mm. To be a contender on the cheap you have to hit on your draft picks.

Obviously you haven't researched it. In actuality only 2 out of 30 teams had 4 players making $10M+/year, and only 8 out of 30 had 3 players making $10M+/year after Orlando amnestied Arenas. The majority of teams (73%) actually do not concentrate that much money into only 3 players. And out of those that do, their 3rd wheels are Al Horford, Rondo, Noah, Bynum, M. Gasol, Tyson Chandler, Bosh, and Ginobili. Any of those players are better than Bargnani. So while I agree he's not terribly overpaid and hence he's not in the top 10, he's still overpaid enough with over $30 million still owed to him to make my dishonorable list.

I'm going to cop out by saying there are a lot more really awful teams than I realized.

Rather instructive that all of the teams with 3+ players making 10mm plus are in the playoffs though.
