I don't blame him or hate him for leaving the Cavs, I just don't think he needed a 1 hour TV special to do it.
The charity excuse is BS. He could have just signed with the Heat and done that separately and had every bit as much success (raising money).
I'm not a fan of the Jim Gray/Maverick Carter business plan of The Decision either...but he would not have been able to raise that much money on the side.
Also, did you or anyone pay attention to how much coverage Peyton Manning's free agency had this offseason, and how much attention he got when he signed with Denver? He got what amounted to a 1 hour program when he ultimately had his signing/PC with the Broncos. Lebron was going to get mega attention and mega coverage no matter
how he did it. Sure, I agree if he would have just signed and leaked it to the press and had his press conference quietly, I would have liked it more...but to act like he could have raised as much money "on the side" as they did with the decision, or to blame him for the attention he got from the situation is just as wrong as calling the charity angle "BS."
The coverage was going to be there no matter what. I think we all(even LBJ) agree that it hurt his persona for a year + as a result...but let's be honest...we would have all had to suffer through the coverage no matter what, at least they got money to a good cause out of it.
