So, from what I can tell the T-wolves really want Pau Gasol and the Lakers really want Dwight Howard. Further, from what Barry Warner on 610 is reporting, Houston is going to make a push for Bynum. If there is anything to any of this, how about this trade:

Lakers get: Dwight Howard
Twolves get: Pau Gasol
Rockets get: Andrew Bynum
Magic get: Derreck Williams, Luis Scola, Kyle Lowery, Terrence Jones and Minnesota's 1st Round pick in 2014

To me, this trade seems to work for everyone, including the Magic. The Magic would get a quality starting PF and PG, plus two young players and a future draft pick. Meanwhile the other teams get that one star that they all seem to want.

Why would the rockets need to be involved. The magic would rather have Bynum than that group of players and picks

Houston would have to kick in a first round pick (try to negotiate lottery protection). Then Orlando gets 2 first round picks, last years second overall pick and a good pg. That is enough to walk away from Bynum I think.

I'd do it. It's time to blow this thing up.

I'd do it, but as mentioned before, the Magic would go directly in for Bynum before the Rocket poo poo platter proposed. Other thing is I doubt the Magic trade him before or during the season without shedding Turkoglu's contract with it. If they don't get rid of that, there's really no point in them trading Howard earlier than the inevitable sign and trade when Howard's deal is up. Considering that and the amount of names tagged to the Rockets, that's why I don't believe Howard's really ever been Morey's primary target in last week's moves.

Andrew Bynum would never want to play in Houston. If he doesn't love playing in LA (which seems to be the case 80% of the time), he won't love playing anywhere.

I like it if it means no other pieces shift around. If we are dumping Lowry and Scola I'd throw in K-Mart for free.

Dragic/Livingston
Lee/Lamb
Parsons/White
D-Mo/Patterson
Bynum/Camby
^ I know D-Mo is a center but he also plays a little power forward. With Bynum and Camby he could go back and forth.

If Morey gets this done he looks like a fricking genius with the 3 draft picks and adding an all star center. I'd be impressed.

Is that actually a rumor? Do you have a link? If LA really wants howard, why wouldn't they just trade bynum and gasol for howard? Seems like thats all they are losing/gaining and it gives orlando 2 quality big men

Houston and Orlando don't want Gasol on their roster. Most likely for contract and $ purposes. However, the speculation is that the Timberwolves are very interested. They like the Gasol and Kevin Love idea.

And yes it is a rumor. Nothing can really happen and no talks with free agents until basically midnight.

I doubt the Lakers would give up Bynum and Gasol for Howard

Why wouldn't they if they also get Lowry in the deal? Lowry-Kobe-Howard sounds pretty good to me.

For those asking, the reason Houston would have to be involved is because I don't believe that Orlando wants an expiring contract (which is what Bynum is).

As to the other question, the Lakers have said they want Howard and the T-wolves have said they want Gasol. Further, per sports radio 610, Houston wants Bynum. They have a lot of discussion on clutchfans.com about this.

What does grabbing Lowry and Scola to pair with Turkoglu's contract do in terms of rebuilding the Magic though? That's not the core of a playoff team. The Magic basically turn themselves into the Rockets by Disney World.

I'd be pretty shocked if anyone grabbed Howard before the deadline without taking Turkoglu because that contract does so much to kill their inevitable rebuilding.

This trade seems like something you'd find on clutchfans and not reality. Even if Bynum's contract is expiring, he's still a far more valuable asset as both a contributor or a salary rolloff than Scola, Lowry, or Scola and Lowry combined.

Don't see how that works for Orlando and I don't see why the Rockets have to give up so much for Bynum.

If the Rockets got Bynum for an average PF with a bad contract, a decent PG with an alright contract, and a mid 1st round pick, it would likely be considered the steal of the offseason by fans, front offices, and NBA analysts alike.

ATM9000-

You seem to have left off Derreck Williams and Terrence Jones. Those are two young players that make this deal more intriguing in my opinion for the Magic.

Word is the Wolves have been offerring Derrick Williams left and right in deals with absolutely no bites. Like Scola and Lowry, what's that tell you about his real value to the rest of the league? As I said earlier, a mid-1st round pick does little to make the deal more intrguing for Orlando.

You can't look at that objectively and think that's even close to the best package Orlando could get for Howard. Aside from that, a lot of reports today have suggested Orlando won't be sending Howard to the Lakers without Bynum coming back.

Wish it weren't the case, but fans gotta face facts here... the Rockets have basically no pieces needed right now to entice a team to send a superstar to them.

TWolves get: Gasol [$19m]
Lakers get: Howard [$19m]
Magic get: Bynum [$16.5m]

Lakers might balk at this deal [obviously there'd be other players/picks thrown in to make numbers work], but perhaps the Rockets enter as a facilitator. Although, with Gasol/Howard/Bynum off the board, I'm not sure what the Rockets get that makes it worth their time, other than ability to shed contracts of Scola and Lowry.

Lakers send Gasol/Bynum and receive Howard/Scola. If I'm the Lakers I probably do that. TWolves would do this deal -- all they lose is the pu-pu platter of crap they have to send out to clear room for Gasol, and I think if Orlando and Bynum can agree to an extension before the trade, they probably do this as well. Heck, they might do it even if they can't agree to an extension.

So what does Houston get to make this worth it? I'm not familiar enough with the direction of the Rockets [if there is one], so maybe someone else can fill in the the other pieces?

Turkoglu only has two years left [including the upcoming one] for a total of $23.5mil. Yeah it's a bad contract, but it's not gonna cripple you like taking on an Amare or Joe Johnson contract would
