De Colo in San Antonio getting a physical. Looks like he might be the first FA we sign. Finally a true point guard.

He is not a true 1. He is a 2 that can play a little 1 if need be.

He plays both. He's the best backup ball handler we've had in a long time.

Rashard Lewis is considering the Spurs. Please. God. No.

Rashard Lewis -- "his game is well".

Rashard for a cheap contract might not be a bad pickup. Especially if it means that we will get rid of Bonner.

I definitely wouldn't dip into our MLE or LLE for Rashard though.

If we go ahead and lock up De Colo that leaves pretty much an MLE signing for either Lorbek or Diaw. It won't be possible to land both.

It also depends on what Timmy takes.

Not really.Duncan looks to be letting the Spurs figure some things out with the euro's they are interested in before signing for what's left over after that. He will be signed anywhere from the 8-13 mil/yr range but it doesn't affect our Free agency whether it's 8 or 13. Just Peter Holts pocket.

What he takes could be significant though, especially if Green signs an offer sheet with another team and we want to match.
Sher Thing

We have bird rights on Green. If he signs an offer sheet we can match it without it affecting our MLE or LLE.

Same goes for Duncan's contract. The only way the Spurs would have any extra money this off-season would be if Duncan retired... Which isn't happening.
Enzo The Baker

Ahh. Didn't realize about the bird rights.

A lot will depend on what De Colo gets. Many think he will come over cheap.

Then there's the Diaw vs Lorbek argument.

The Spurs also desperately need to try and make a trade involving any combination of Blair, Bonner and Neal.

Blair I can see getting traded. But Bonner has two more guaranteed years. He'll be tough to move.

don't talk **** about bonner. a very select few posters will absolutely **** themselves with anger when you state the less than flattering facts when it comes to that ***.

Amnestying Bonner might be a very good option if they want to bring in Lorbek and resign Diaw who both can spread the floor and can contribute in more ways than Matty. It would be cheaper than paying 250% luxury tax to have all three.

Spurs now pursuing Bass. Sweet, another undersized big.

Bass is a solid plan C but I'd rather go with Lorbek or Diaw.
Ulrich

I like Bass but he isn't what the Spurs need.

If the Spurs can somehow get rid of Bonner and Blair then they will need to get a couple PF's to be in the rotation. If the Spurs could get Diaw back on and do a S&T to acquire Bass then that team would look pretty solid. Something like this

Parker/De Colo
Green/Ginobili/Neal
Leonard/Jackson
Diaw/Bass
Duncan/Splitter

This is what the Spurs need to try and accomplish, whether it's Bass or another PF we can trade for.

Spurs are also in contention for Kaman according to Bucher. I'd be fore this if he took the MLE. We desperately need his size.

Kaman is very underrated. I would like him in the big rotation.

Since Pop has shown the inability to play Duncan/Splitter together what makes you think he'd play Duncan/Kaman together?

Kaman is not the type of player the Spurs need. While they would benefit from his size, they need a PF who they can play next to Duncan. Pop has made it clear that he prefers players who can stretch the floor, make a jumpshot and is mobile enough to defend the 4 position since Duncan is our Center now. Bass fits all these except he's a little undersized which is a big downfall to a team that is already undersized at many positions.

Ersan Ilyasova is the perfect example of what would fit perfectly here. It's almost too perfect of a fit. Too bad he's getting monster contract offers.

If you can get Kaman, you get him. He isn't a great defender, but he can score and he can rebound. He did have a season where he averaged 16/13/3. That's pretty great.
Sher Thing

Spurs won't look at Kaman.

In other news: Brandon Bass staying. Celtics have reached agreement with power forward on 3-year deal, per Herald source.
Sher Thing

and I'm not saying I wouldn't like Kaman. He's definitely better than any big we have outside of Duncan and if he's willing to take MLE money, that isn't a bad bargain.

I just don't see how the Spurs would use him and I don't see Pop changing up his ways therefore I don't believe he's the type of player the Spurs would realistically look at.

Never underestimate Pop's affinity for tall white men.
light skinned 6'9 or taller spurs:
Rasho
Oberto
Splitter
Bonner
Perdue
Steve Novak
Cherokee Parks
Croshere
Turkeyglue
Danny Ferry
Lohaus
Tim Kempton
Sher Thing

Most of those are before the Spurs changed their philosophy to offense-first. Since that time the only tall white guys are guys that can shoot.

With the exception being Splitter who most felt didn't get enough court time and practically was never paired next to Duncan which then makes him useless.

Kaman can make a mid range jumper. Splitter can't. I would also love Ilyasova, but as mentioned he'll probably get a bigger contract from another team or overseas than the Spurs will offer. I think he's made it clear he will play for the highest bidder.

Kaman has a decent mid-range shot.
Sher Thing
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Kaman's mid range shot is decent enough to pair next to Duncan, I agree. Problem arises when we then have nobody to guard the opposing 4. Especially in the new age NBA when 80% of the teams are going small at some point. Looks at the finals. Lebron and Durant spent the majority of the time at the 4.
Enzo The Baker

Small ball is kind of a moot point though isn't it? The Spurs won't play two bigs no matter who they have if the other team is playing small.
