Nash is at least something. I'm not exactly excited of the prospect of rolling out the same old thing as last year now minus JET and presumably Kidd.

Dirk is significantly on the wrong side of 30 at this point. Still a very good player for a 34 year old, but that likely won't last much longer. If I was the Mavs, I would likely start the rebuilding process now.

Ilyasova might be an interesting choice. Similar game to Dirk's but stronger inside. I know I would love the Spurs to get him.

At this point I'd unfortunately say we should trade Dirk. There is no point of signing a couple of average FA this offseason and finishing 6-8 in the west for the last 2 years of Dirk's contract and never improving. They have to do something drastic now. Thanks for nothing Donnie and Cuban!!!

I haven't watched a lot of Ilyasova's games because...well, why would I ever watch Milwaukee, but his game seems a little too similar to Dirk's for that to work.

At this point.... if the Mavs are going to throw money at anyone, i'd hope it would be Hibbert. I think he is only going to keep getting better. Not the best situation, but it can still be semi-salvaged

What are the chances of getting D12..... If none, then I look at trading Dirk....... But his prime may last 2-3 more years. He is not getting shorter and his shot isnt going to leave him.

The sky is not falling. It would have been great to sign Williams. But there will be free agents next year.

Trading Dirk is worst idea ever. Second worst is signing a bunch of scrubs just to appease some fans.

Nothing wrong with Hibbert. Even if he doesnt improve one iota, he is solid player.

Only way you ever trade a player like Dirk is if he's in the last year of his contract and isn't going to resign.

this is a punch in the gut after that wasted year last yr breaking up a championship team.

however, cubes and donnie have always done whatever it took including taking on bad contracts, mid season trades, etc to make the mavs a contender.

they know more than any fan that dirk has 2 good years left and they need to maximize. though the bad contracts piece is not an option anymore, i think they will put a team around him still. unless ofcourse they decided eff it, once championship is enough for the next ten years.

How is it a punch of the gut? He never once have any inclination that he was going to Dallas. Not one. He entertained the mavs staff at his own discretion much like Lebron did with the bulls. It wasn't as close as it seemed, even if he tries to spin it otherwise. His family loves NYC, he lives in a badass soho apartment, and he doesn't have to move his family for a 2nd time.

So you've never once hoped a big free agent might sign with your favorite and been disappointed? Fair enough, I guess when your screen name is Yankees you actually might not know what that's like - considering you get every free agent you ever hope for.

Oh you know except for all the times he mentioned it would be nice to play back home, how much he enjoys playing in Dallas, how Dallas was one of only two teams he was considering, even in his final tweet how it was a tough decision.

I mean, it's not the end of the world or even the franchise, but surely you can see how it's a little bit of a disappointment can't you?

LeBron said the same things about Cleveland. Trust me, it wasnt as tough a decision as he made it sound

Dallas, like the Rockets or the Spurs, isn't getting a big time, in his prime free agent, EVER. Just go back to the draft and try to get lucky.

What Cuban did was worth a shot, destroying an old team to try and land some 'home town boys', but even he knew at the end of the day that it was Dallas, and it wasn't happening.

At this point unless Cubes pulls off a miracle and trades for Howard. I think blowing up the team is the way to go. You may give it 1 more year since their is not a consensus superstar next year, but you have to get bad enough to get your hat in on the Jabari sweepstakes. Plus Dirk deserves a shot to win another title even if it is not as a Mav as tough as that is to say. Yankees your comparison sucks. It's more like saying Lebron had no possibility of signing with the Cavs not the Bulls. It was unlikely in both situations that they the alternative would take place but acting like it was 0% is laughable. Brooklyn brought on the worst contract in the NBA because they were worried Williams may go elsewhere. Too bad you weren't there to advise them, you could have saved them a ton of money. In the end, Cubes should have re-signed Chandler and that is where everything went wrong.

Yankees is right. Deron was never serious about anywhere but Brooklyn. That's why he did so many activities with the Nets' team before "officially" announcing that he was staying.

I'm all for 2-3 years of lottery picking...but Dirk and Carlisle sure as he'll ain't.

If you can't attract big name FA's to your team...you need to develop from within through the draft and shrewd scouting. You can be back on top within 4-5 years with a new core if you are dedicated to developing and sticking to it...just ask Nolan and JD...their process began in 07 and turned into a two time pennant winner...franchise building is franchise building...but you gotta commit to a process...flip flopping will only get you an 6-8 seed at best and a mid 1st round pick...ask Jerry how that has worked for him the last 6 years, neither dominant nor doormat...only mediocre...as Stringer put it...it's a Forty Degree day

We all love Dirk but it's time to rebuild and trade him. In the past year we've lost a lot of talent and unless we sign Nash or a some other miracle happens this team won't even make the playoffs next year. I have no idea if there is even a decent trade market out there for a 34 year old who makes 15-20 million but you have to at least see. At this point we need to either put ourselves in position to rebuild or contend and the latter is impossible at this point. And don't give me that 2013 bull ****.

I'd like to see Dirk spent the rest of his prime on another team and then come back and sign with the Mavs and retire a Mav.

He's one of the only players to ever did what he did. Only Hakeem and Tim Duncan can say the same as Dirk to win a championship like he did.

I'm ok with rebuilding. We won the ship with Dirk and had a decade of winning seasons and great memories.

How many times has DC mentioned he's a Mavs season ticket holder?

I'm putting the O/U at 999.5

I don't think Dirk will be moved, and doubt he'd want to be.

The lack of activity coming from Mavs management is pretty peculiar though.

no tyson, no jj, no deron, no nash, no lin.

but hey, we got roddy b, dojo, 80 yr old vince carter and shawn marion, we got three rookies who know one knew about, we have a legitimate superstar with 2 good years, and we got a center who in line with other dallas centers like cherokee parks, loren meyer, shawn bradley and erica dampier, cant play a lick of bball.

whats there to complain about? cuban and donnie are the smartest guys in any room, even when you have stephen hawking or albert einstein in the room.

Really is a shame that Deron decided to stay. Mavs could have put together a pretty good team with a Haywood amnesty and 4 trade exceptions. Kidd's tweets indicate it wasn't a completely hopeless gamble, despite the thought it was never really a consideration.

In hindsight, would have been nice to see them try and defend the title.

It's really not the end of the world though.
