Stern met with the media after the Board of Governors held their annual summer meeting, and said the league is looking to add possibly $100 million in revenue by permitting small advertising patches on uniforms starting in the 2013-14 season.

...and this will open the doors for the NFL and MLB to do the same.

Nike logo is already on jerseys everywhere.

Wow, this pisses me off.

Next thing you know the courts will look like Texas Tech's floor. Freakin junky ads all over it.

This sucks.

Seems like some outrage for nothing really.

I wonder if this is just moving advertising dollars around.

Why put in on the arena wall or buy a commercial when you can put it on the jersey?

What? This is gonna somehow compromise the integrity of the NBA? Get real

I'm surprised it's taken this long; it's been done in Europe for decades.

Not outraged or anything like that, but I don't like it. Nobody wants to see team uniforms cluttered with sh-t.

Who gets the money? Does the Association get a slice or is it all for the teams?

No it isn't.

Not outraged by it, but not a fan of it. I understand it will be easy revenue, but there will be something unsettling about seeing a random Exxon patch or something on a Boston Celtics or Los Angeles Lakers jersey.

Keeping my fingers crossed for a Wayne Wright patch on the Spurs jersey.

All the publicity and false outrage over this will lead to even more ad revenue. MLB should be pissed they didn't get to it first. It was always inevitable

I always thought MLB would do it first.

There is a slight difference between an advertisement and the company who actually makes the uniforms sticking their logo on it. FWIW.

Soccer's been doing it for too long for me to give a length of time, I think as long as its done in a way thats not cluttered or nascar-esque it'll be a way for teams to be able to raise revenue and still not effect the cost to the average fan.

The difference with soccer is that the team's logo/name is their shield which doesn't take up any space. So it sounds like basketball is doing it vice versa, which I'm okay with.

I hope they end up looking like NASCAR uniforms. That would be awesome.

Soccer teams starting making smaller team logos and shield when advertisements starting appearing. Top flight English soccer starting uniform advertisements in mid 80s.

golfers have looked like nascar drivers for years, but I saw something new. Went to golf.com & typed in the leaderboard for British Open. Golfers who obviously have a Nike sponsor each have a Nike logo by their name on the graphic. Nobody else has any logo by their names.

I counted 7 different logos on one golfer's clothes yesterday.

Golfers are somewhat different in that they are individuals and not teams. If Waffle House wanted to put logos on my work shirts for $500k/yr, I would gladly wear them to work everyday. Wouldn't you?
