Our two leading scorers were subs. Almost every sub scored double figures. Were we supposed to just hold the ball? We played our subs extensive minutes.

"We didn't play LeBron [James] and Kobe [Bryant] in the second half, and with Carmelo shooting like that, we benched him," Krzyzewski said. "We didn't take any fast breaks in the fourth quarter, and we played all zone. You have to take a shot every 24 seconds, and the shots we took happened to be hit."
Nigeria wouldn't know defense even if they looked it up in the dictionary. Their coach was pleading them to run out on the shooters because they kept converging towards the middle of the paint for no reason. They didn't rotate like they should have and USA made them pay time and time again.
Anytime you have 20+ turnovers against a team like ours, you're gonna get beat badly.
Watching the game, it felt like it was one big highlight reel. Poor Nigeria, they were the team that the US finally got hot with.
disco nailed it...the whole damn team was heat checking with guarded three's and they kept falling...87 of their points were three balls...what are we supposed to do, run out the shot clock and hand them the ball? That was simply one of the greatest three-point shooting performances by a group that most folks have ever seen. I just wish we would have done it against Spain or Argentina.
I got home after work and don't think I even got to see Kobe, LeBron, Carmelo or Durant play that I remember. Anybody that said we ran up the score probably didn't watch the game, doesn't know anything about basketball and has an anti-NBA bias already instilled.
I remember a couple of times in high school where we were up against a really out-maned team and the game was out of hand that coach would make us play lane ball. No defense outside the lane, no shots inside the lane. At the high school level games like that sucked. At the highest level, when the other team can't miss (and isn't trying to embarrass you) you just have to shake your head and accept that it's one of those nights.
