Still the best commissioner in sports, but basketball could have used some fresh blood before the super teams became a thing.

Could he really have done anything about it? I mean the super team thing didn't really happen until well into the CBA approved in '99 ('07-'08). And the new CBA will make it tougher. What else could he have done?

Also, one single player means a lot more when you have 5 players on the court rather than 22 starters and 45 guys that see playing time or 9 starters and 5 starting pitchers and 8 relief pitchers.

So having the best player in the league or the series means a hell of a lot more in the NBA than MLB or NFL.

I know, I just thought it was interesting.

Stern is not without some major blunders, but he has been better than Selig and the jury is still out on Gooddell since he has been at the job for a short period of time, regardless of Soup's vendetta against him for his Saints bias. As a Steelers fan, I don't like him either at this point because I think they have unfairly tried to make examples out of guys on the Steelers D for their hits when other teams got away with worse each week when the crackdowns began, but I'm still going to give the man his run, or at least a long enough sample size to decide on him.

If he continues to clean up the excessive hits, manages to work out some sort of deal with the former player lawsuits, all while not losing the quality of the product on the field, and the NFL will continues to grow and be the biggest money-making sport, then I think the Saints situation will be another blip on the screen like other commissioners have gone through. And even that situation is not yet resolved to we can't even reflect on that yet.

Selig is a joke, no doubt.

I think that Fujita and Vilma are both ready to see this out so that it won't be just a blip. Especially if Vilma's defamation suit goes through, which it looks like it will.

No matter what you think about the Saints, anyone informed in the Bounty Scandal knows that Goodell has fumbled over and over in that case.

I've kept up with it a good deal. Vilma did not help himself this week on Rome, either. He sounded full of ****. His lawyer should tell him to shut his mouth while he deals with it in court. I think public opinion, including my own, was starting to head towards the player's direction, but I actually was in the car during Rome that day which is odd and I heard it...he sounded terrible trying to explain away things.

If it costs Goddell his job, then we'll know. If it doesn't and it is ruled against the players, everyone except Saints fans will forget about it in a few years.

And again, at this point I have not been happy with Goodell, but that's because he has directly targeted my team in his excessive hit crackdowns.

and back on Stern, he has expanded the sport greatly. However, a NBA ref gambling conspiracy, along with the worst brawl in sports history, especially considering it was players v. fans are major, major black eyes. Oh, and the NBA basically not allowing CP3 to go to LAL.

I'll forgive Stern for mixing the CP3 deal when the Lakers raise another banner in June. All things considered he has been a good commissioner. The international growth and popularity of the league will be his legacy.

he gets way to much crap. the NBA was on the verge of becoming the MLS when he stepped in. yes he came in with magic, larry, mj, and yao who brought the game to china. but he was able to market them strategically and was able to bring the game to the entire world.
