In fact, I'm positive I don't understand this move...

Makes me wonder if there is more to the story...

It was to appease DWill. Plain and simple. This team just doesn't mesh well though, IMO.

.577 lifetime record, coach of the year when he took the Mavs to the finals, fastest ever to 150 wins, and coach of the month in October and November, but he gets canned because he was only .500 after 28 games with an overhauled roster that was still pretty much garbage.

is D-Will a coach killer, or just someone who is too damn hard to work with?

I know, being unable to watch a lot of their games since you don't live in their market, you would assume it's the roster that sucks. He is a HORRIBLE game managing coach., I have the (mis)fortune of having nets season tickets and i've seen this clown up close and in person. he sucks

According to team sources, Johnson was annoyed with Williams' visible apathy toward the Nets' offense and delivered a sarcastic "How would you do things differently?" -- only to watch as Williams diagrammed plays, maneuvered players around and basically showed up his coach in front of the entire team."

Yea, I read that and thought that had to be a very very awkward situation. Not sure how a coach recovers from that.

But I have also heard a few people say that Avery is too controlling. He still tries to "play pg" as a coach and does not give his players any type of leash, etc...They could have just been making that up though (I heard it on the radio).

When I heard Dwill's response to the questions about if he wanted Avery gone, I actually thought he sounded pretty sincere when he was explaining he had nothing to do with it. Either he has gotten very good at lying about getting coaching fired from experience (very possible), or he really didn't have a problem with Avery. If I had to pick, I'd say its the former.

It sounds like Avery is trying to model after how Pop is a hard ass. Problem is, you have to be genuine and it has to be your personality. You also need the right set of star players. Robinson and Duncan didn't need to be coddled.

Thugs dont usually like coaches with non-thug style. Pop and Avery are perfect examples of this.

Players love pop. He is a hardass about some things, but he's got a hilarious dry sense of humor and goofs around in practice. He's not tough and aloof all the time.
