I think they will seriously consider it. I think they will save around 80 million if they cut him and free the cap room. What a tough break, never liked him but I will always respect him.

Amnesty might be the right move, but the fans would burn the staples center down. The Lakers are going to suck for a while (they need to cut Dwight loose as he is not the answer), no need to piss the fans off too.

They are printing money with thier tv deal. Plus, Kobe fills the seats even if he doesn't get back to form.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Kobe. They are saying he will miss 6-9 months which would put him back some time between November and February. If he was going to miss the entire season, then it would be an easy decision to amnesty him and resign him as a free agent the following season. This is allowed because his contract expires after next year.

I think the decision will be based largely on the free agent market and what deals can be done this summer.

Dwight is priority #1 and he will sign with the Lakers. Dream on Rockets fans.

If D'Antoni remains our coach, and I expect that he will, Pau will almost certainly not be back next season. His recent strong play and expiring contract will make him a very valuable trade chip and I trust Mitch Kupchak to get a solid return if not straight out rob someone (as is his style).

The master plan was always to cash in on the outstanding 2015 FA class (possibly Lebron). I think that is still got to be the plan.

It is going to be a wild offseason.

The NBA MVP award typically goes to the best player on the best team - that's clearly not Kobe and the Lakers.

Kobe does deserve to be first team all-NBA for a record (tied with Malone) 11th time and 15th time overall (tied with Kareem).

I like Harden's game a lot, but he ain't Kobe and it's not close. If you think the Rockets have been a much better team, then you are sadly mistaken. Prior to Kobe's injury I promise you teams would've rather played the Rockets than a Laker team that has played .700 ball since the all-star break.

Kobe isn't even a top 5 mvp candidate. Lebron, Durant, Paul, Parker, and Melo all have much better cases.

Nash has been hurt all season and not in his prime when Healthy. Pau is finally healthy after playing hurt, when he played, all season. Also past his prime. Dwight, the only guy in his prime, wasn't supposed to return from back surgery until January and has played with a hurt shoulder.

Meanwhile Kobe and his ripe old age is still a top 5 player in the NBA.

I have no doubt that Bryant will finish top 5 in MVP voting and 1st team, but he's nowhere close to winning the MVP. To refute the point, I will compare him to what should be the undisputed MVP, Lebron James.

Bryant has .5 more points and is 8.5% better from the free throw line. James is 8% better from three (Kobe has always been overrated as a long range threat), 10% better from the field, gets 2.4 more rebounds per game, 1.3 more assists, .7 fewer turnovers, .3 more steals, and .6 more blocks all while playing slightly fewer minutes. Kobe's team could still miss the playoffs; the Heat are 4.5 games ahead of the Thunder and 11 games ahead of the next best team in the East.

Lebron, Durant, Carmelo, CP3 and Parker are my top 5 MVP candidates in no particular order.

I'd love for CP3 to get it based on what he has done for the Clippers franchise. They won 50 games and a division title for the first time in their history. Without his leadership and outstanding play they would be a lottery team.

Kobe gets the nod over Westbrook for first team as does Carmelo over Durant if he wins the scoring title.
