I'm of the opinion of the signing being more of a marketing/Asian market money grab play by the owner than a basketball move by Morey.

Linferior?

(Really, not that bad, but it seems that Dragic was the better buy)

Dragic got a 4y/30mm contract. Lin got a 3y/25mm, but it is only counts 5mm next year against the cap so the Rockets can get a Max-Player. I don't think they could have structured Dragic like that.

Lin is much more marketable with the Rockets, especially to their base in China.

He's been injured for games 2 and 3......and did any Rocket do well in Game 1?

Both. Does winning not lead to more money?

My understanding is that individual teams keep ticket and sales revenue from home playoff games, and that all merchandising sales is all pooled together and divided equally anyway, except for what is purchased at the arena store. (That could be completely wrong).

I've always liked Dragic as a player, but I didn't see him as much as a Rocket fan would, so maybe I'm too high on him. I thought his contract was too high last year, but maybe not.

They made a lot of money with Yao without winning that much.

He did what was best for the team and sat out with a "chest injury"

I was impressed with AB and Bev last night. I hope that continues to be the rotation in Game 5.

So, instead of looking at his entier body of work (13.4 ppg, 6.1 apg, 3 rpg, all over his career averages) you take only 3 games out of 85 he's played to judge his worth?

I don't like to elaborate on every post I make. However, if the objective was to overpay for an average point guard who has been less than underwhelming in the playoffs/tail end of the season then Morey succeeded.

I think you misinterpreted my OP. It was meant to call out Lin for pulling a Houdini at the end of the season and into the playoffs, and also to call out Morey for bringing in an overpaid average NBA point guard who has not helped us at all in the playoffs.

This is consistently the argument when discussing Lin. But take a look at Lin's salary numbers and compare them to the rest of the league. Lin is paid like an average starting PG.

http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/48033/jeremy-lins-contract-in-perspective
According to this list he is 11th in the league in salary for starting PGs. Of course this list does not include the elite rookies on a scaled salary that will increase as soon as it expires. He is paid about average, maybe slightly above, but he is not drastically overpaid like everyone says.

I agree the guy has been terrible in this series and would really like to see him playing better, but I am giving it time. Lin is 24 years old and has played just over 1 season's worth of NBA games. Not to mention he has not had a healthy offseason to develop his game specifically his outside shooting. The key to his development will be be this offseason. If he does not improve then ok I will sign off on a bad deal, but not yet.

For all of our sakes I hope he gets better and develops his game in the offseason because I don't think Morey is giving up on him anytime soon either

Simply stating "3 games out of 85" is misleading. If it was 3 games out of the regular season, then yeah, slumps happen. But this is the playoffs. This is why he got the contract he got - to lead us to playoff victories. And so far he has played worse than terrible

The issue is that he probably shouldn't be a starting PG. He is turnover prone and a terrible defender.

Hopefully, Houston doesn't want to enter the "who is going to overpay for a whiny, weak Dwight Howard" sweepstakes as well..

The contract you gave him? You mean being paid as the 11th best pg in the league and you think that entitles you playoff wins? You make it out like you're paying him Kobe money...

His contact is back-loaded. He'll be making crazy money in year 3 of his contract. We essentially signed him to a large contract based on a one month sample size. He doesn't deserve that kind of money right now and his performance is evidence of that

I hope Beverley starts next year with Lin backing him up, but unfortunately I don't see the Rockets doing that.

All signs are pointing towards Morey throwing the max at Dwight. Odds are he either stays in LA or comes to Houston.

I'm so sick of this misconception being reposted everywhere. His salary hit is 8 million per year for his whole contract. The backloaded contract would have only affected the knicks. Look it up.
