Actually I think it is quite different. The Spurs winning does not affect you other than reminding you of your own teams consistent mediocrity.

I root against the sips because college football success is mostly about winning recruiting battles.

I rooted for the Mags ultimately because of Dirk. Guys like Grant Hill go their whole career and don't get a ring and I felt that Dirk should get one. I assume he's a nice guy and he stayed with Dallas his while career.

I don't go along with all the heat hate. I was rooting for them over the mavs. As for now, because Lebron already got a championship I find myself rooting for the pacers. I'm not sure about taking sides in the finals.
