For those of us that don't have a team in the playoffs, the offseason is all we have to look forward to.

So that being said, I don't know much about this draft class. What do the experts on TexAgs think?

I'm hoping we get a point guard, especially if Burke or Carter-Williams fall to us at 13. I would also be ok with Larkin, but most of the mock drafts have him going in the 20s. But he was really impressive at the combine, so he may go a little earlier than expected.

But, of course, chances are we will go with some foreign player and hope to get lucky with them...

I've also heard that the Mavs might try to give away their 1st rounder to avoid the cap hold and clear space to sign a max FA like Howard.

Why would howard go to the mavs?

Burke is going top 5 and will probably be a bust. The Mavs fans should feel lucky not to get him.

Preppy's gf was probably sleeping around with Cuban and the Mavs roster. Only reason I can think of that would leave somebody so butthurt towards an organization

Obviously, no one ever said we were getting Howard. I also never said we would get Burke. I said IF Burke or Carter Williams fell, I would like us to take them. I realize there is a very slim chance of either of them falling.

But go ahead and keep making things up that us Mavs fans said and then make fun of us for saying the things you made up that we said. Some of you are ridiculous.

Everything I've read says they are looking to shop the pick. If they do draft a player, I've seen either a point gaurd (Carter-Williams)or Dario Saric from all the mock drafts.

No, but thanks for asking...it's amazing how if someone has a decenting opinion how sensitive and whinny you basketball board guys get...and I'm pretty sure your stfu comments are germane only to internet boards tough guy...but thanks for the laugh.

Same with your comments about my spouse...I promise you this wouldn't be said in person, which makes it soo much more funny to read...it's cute that you take basketball so seriously.

And for the record, I've said time and time again why I don't like the mavs...and it's their fans. You guys are intolerable when you lose (and comical for that matter), and even worse when you win...

Then why bring up the fact that "the mavs are clearing cap space for Howard" if you're not saying they're getting howard? The implication is that you think you have a shot, to which I'm entitled to comment...

Looking up 5 different mock drafts, not one has Burke falling past 10 (and I never even brought up Carter-Williams so there's that), with most thinking he may go top 5...that's like saying "If Nerlens Noel falls to 13 we're gonna take him..." well no s***...

I'm sorry fellas, but if you don't see the extreme humor in a group of fans that year in year out make the same claims over and over again I apologize, but I do see it and it makes me laugh...

You say "you guys" as if me and Magnolia are Mavs fans. We're not. We're Rockets. But your crap just gets really old.

Ignoring the troll, I think the pick gets traded. The odds of landing CP360 or D12 are very low but we have to go for it.

No, I said you guys regarding you making inappropriate comments about my wife...which shouldn't happen again now that you've been told it's inappropriate.

Why? you swung and missed on any big name free agent for 2 years, why is this year any different? Would it not be better for the mavs to go after players they might actually have a shot at landing? That's why they ended up with spare parts last season, they missed on D-Williams and by the time they recovered there was no one left to take but an injury prone Kaman, a horrible collison, and an overrated Mayo.

And if by troll you mean non-mavs fan, then you're correct...

Ultimately the Mavs need to build in the draft instead of hoping for free agents from other teams.

Ultimately yes. But I would like to see the Mavs shoot for the moon while Dirk still has some life in his legs. Once he's gone I'm fine with a true rebuild assuming the team is no longer competitive.

It's tough to rebuild from the draft when you're picking late in the first round most years.

The NBA isn't really a league that you can build thru the draft entirely...Using the draft and free agents that fit a system, not necessary just going all "dwight Howards and Deron Williams" every offseason hasn't hurt the Spurs much...of the top 8 players in minutes per game for them this year, only Tim DUncan was drafted higher than 15th...Tony Parker #29, Manu Ginobili #57, Danny Green #46, Kawhi Leonard #15, Thiago Splitter #28, Boris Diaw #21, Matt Bonner #45...half of those players the spurs drafted and the other half were from free agency and trades...all that without "clearing cap space" to sign the next big free agent.
keithd03
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yes, the Spurs were very smart/fortunate to hit on Tony and Manu where they did in the draft. Can you name some other teams that were able to thrive in the latter years of their super star (Duncan) by drafting key players late in the draft?

3 William 56

Hence why I said the NBA isn't a league that you canbuild primarily thru the draft...you have to have a smart front office that doesn't swing for the fences and misses more times than not...which the mavs don't have

Bynum and Tony Allen part of the contingency plan in Dallas off-season if not landing Howard?

Mavs really missed on DWill.

Picked a terrible summer to have a bunch of cap room. Keep the draft pick, hope you get a solid complementary piece to pair with a healthy Dirk

my favorite example is the 08 Celtics. They endured 2 years of missing the playoffs and completely rebuilt around Pierce. They were able to obtain the young assets and expiring contracts to trade for Allen and Garnett, then signed some veteran role players around them as well as keep some other good young players at cheap salaries.

2005 - won division, had drafted Tony Allen at #25, drafted Al Jefferson at 15( later traded him + expiring a for Garnett)
2006 - lottery bound, used #7 pick to dump bad contracts for expirings, drafted Rondo at #20
2007 - lottery bound, used #5 pick to trade for Allen
2008 - contenders

They rebuilt in 2 years and were able to pounce on the Garnett and Allen trades as well as retain young Rondo as a solid rotation player at a cheap rookie rate.
