Help me understand why this is a slur and demands a significant fine?

And LeBron only gets fined $5000 for flopping, which is something that directly impacts the game. The NBA just amazes me sometimes

I wish he wouldn't have apologized at all. He's a grown man, he didn't stutter. I think he offended the media more than anybody. He sure as heck didn't invent the "no homo" phrase.

I find it difficult to believe the fine was strictly for the cursing.

Yeah, I figured as soon as I saw the headline "gay slur" it was probably something benign that the metrosexual world overreacted to.

That phrase has been around for years now. And how is homo a gay slur? If you are gay, you are a homosexual. Good grief.

His apology is the most pathetic statement I've ever seen. "No homo" shouldn't even be uttered in private? Whatever. Man up or GTFO. I can't believe Hibbert allowed that pathetic apology to be released.

It wasn't a NBA or PR "issue" 3 years ago.

Just like when players said ***got(f word for gays) 15 and 20 years ago was different than 5 and 10 years ago, you can't show a clip from 3 years ago and try and say "oh well they didn't fine him when he said it. Hell, Kobe was one of the biggest droppers of the f word non-stop in his career, yet when Collins comes out ESPN shows Kobe's tweet in support as the top story(****ing joke).

All that being said, as I previously posted...it's all bull****. No one should be fined for it. It's not a big deal, and it offended no one.

I love this Pacers squad and Hibbert is the current best center in the NBA and he isn't a bad guy...no need to act like this is some atrocity against gays.

Ever find it odd that a of 20-40 year old men who work around basically all men almost never curse in press conferences or scrums? I'm not saying the 'no homo' wasn't part of it, but these guys get fined for cursing at refs on the court and doing the big ball gesture. The NBA is easily the most image-conscious and I am pretty sure almost every player knows it is a given they are getting hit hard in the pocketbook for a curse at the media.

Do I think the 'no homo' thing played a role? Sure... but I guarantee you had Hibbert just dropped an MF in the news conference, he'd still be looking at a $40-50k fine.
