He's not an elite coach, but he's gotten better. He was pretty outmatched 2 years ago when IMO he cost the Heat a title when Carlisle completely outcoached and ran circles around him.

Why do you hate Battier?
While we're on the topic, I'd rather have any of these guys as my coach over Spoelstra:
-Tom Thibadeau
-Poppovich
-Vogel
-Carlisle
-George Karl
-Adelman
He's not in the top 20%, but he's not terrible either.

So which is it:

b) Battier realizing the game is changing and this is an easy way to gain an advantage (except for fines)

The Heat get after it defensively. That is a superstar roster buying in to a style of play and that comes from the top. Spolestra has Miami playing well. Let's not forget, despite Danny Green's headlines... the Heat outshot SA from the 3 point arc tonight. They got good performances from their Big 3. They forced the Spurs into 18 turnovers. They just got beat by a Spurs team at the top of their game.
One of the biggest decisions of the series was Spolestra's decision to totally bench Anderson. One wonders if we will see him in Game 6. I bet yes.

Anderson and some other bench guys will show up in Miami because the non superstar players play better at home.

Easiest job in the league. Just roll the ball out for Wade/James. Have a seat. Watch them go.
Compare the Heat's plays out of timeouts to Ginobili's abortion at the end. He earned my respect.
