Subsequent examinations and an MRI confirmed a medial meniscus tear to his right knee, which will require surgery. Rose is out indefinitely, and will not accompany the team on the rest of its current road trip.

i called this after the he tore the acl. his style is so explosive and herky-jerky that there is NO WAY his body can handle it. it's sad, but the explosiveness and quick cuts that make him such a freak athlete are the same things that are going to have him in retirement by 27.

Yeah... absolutely original take on Rose, his injury, and style that you called out. Hadn't heard that angle from any NBA analysts on all of the sports shows... until now.

It is sad. Money isn't everything and to lose the ability to do what you love can kill you mentally

What's it feel like to be a total *******?

This guy worked all year to get back, had it taken away again, and my have lost the ability to play the game he loves effectively. But I guess if someone had money nothing else matters right?

Tobias, OP has had a relatively carefree life living it up in America. He hasn't seen the kind of sadness you or I have. His original statement is quite plausible. I kinda envy him for not knowing real pain. At the same time, I feel sorry for him because it's the pain that makes me truly appreciate the beautiful moments God has given me.

Oh lord. There I go again getting all sentimental while talking sports. Sorry everyone.

It's always sad to see a young person unable to fulfill their potential because of circumstances they can't really control. Especially if you've seen the flashes that give you every indicator that they would have reached that potential. That's a sad situation for anyone, not just professional athletes.

Why such thin skin, Summit? Have you, like OP, not seen true sadness or dealt with adversity in your life?

All kidding aside, I'm not sure what the reason for OP's sudden outburst was. I've seen his posts on the football board and it appears he has a temper so this was within character. But it's still bizarre. I thought a normal response to Tobias would've been "Ha ya guess that was a bit of an overreaction. Still sad regardless" and that would've been the end of it. We can all agree that what happened to D Rose is sad. However, it doesn't take a master of the English language to understand how OP's use of the phrase "I've ever seen" can be viewed as over the top. When I think of one of the saddest things I've ever seen, moments where innocent people die in tragedy from violence or sickness come to mind. A more fitting statement for OP might've been "one of the saddest sports stories in recent memory." Or something like that.

Couldn't be farther from each other. McGrady got 8 good years out of his body. Rose is the NBA equivalent of Bob Sanders. Got two or three good years and by good, I mean the best at his position. Not only a good player, but a good team leader. Then boom.

McGrady, Hill, Hardaway, Yao, Arenas, etc. All these guys had at least 5 years to make their mark.

Oden, Dajuan Wagner, Brandon Roy, Shaun Livingston, Jay Williams, etc. Those guys barely got their start.

Rose occupies the space in between these two groups. Pretty sad IMO. I thought Hardaway and Hill were the biggest downers for me. They both had a shot at being the legit best players in the entire league. Hill might have been the second best player in the NBA behind Jordan. Grant Hill was putting up LeBron numbers and there was talk that he would be the first since Robertson to average a triple-double for the year. Penny was the bridge from Magic to LeBron. 6-7 with great court vision and crazy athleticism. Rose's story might be the worst of all them. Hometowner with an MVP to his name and was supposed to be the one to lead the dethroning of Miami.

Torn meniscus is a pretty small injury in the grand scheme of things. I imagine Rose will take the rest of the year off to mull retirement

So if someone doesn't think this is a "tragedy", or "the saddest thing they've ever seen" they need to eat a dick? Interesting.

Saying it's sad is one thing, but saying it's the saddest thing you've ever seen is a touch much wouldn't you say? If Derrick Rose hurting his knees is the saddest thing you've ever seen you've lived a charmed life.

It's not the saddest thing I've ever seen. Not even the saddest thing I've seen in the NBA this season. It sure as hell sucks, though. I'm a big Derrick Rose fan.

The Bulls should be tanking. If they tank properly, this thing could be the greatest blessing in disguise since David Robinson's "injury".

I understand why they didn't tank last year; Anthony Bennett is NOT worth exchanging a playoff trip. But its time to tank now.

The brilliance of Lebron's path of least resistance is demonstrated again. The East is a two team league now. The Nets better turn it on soon.

Tanking in the East is going to be tough. I know it's early, but only 3 of 15 teams in the East are over .500 as of last night.

Sucks for Rose, and he's got a long mental road to travel, even longer than the physical rehab.
