quote:
Addressing the NBA's weak Eastern Conference on Sirius XM Radio's new NBA channel, deputy commissioner Adam Silver said Monday the league's competition committee will examine if divisions have outlived their usefulness.

"One thing I have learned from David (Stern) over all those years ... is every day we should wake up and take a fresh look at everything we do. Divisions fall into that category," said Silver, who will take over for Stern as NBA commissioner in February. "Historically, based on geography in terms of ways to schedule and convenience of travel, the goal was to enhance rivalries and I'm not sure if that's still what's happening.

"That's something I'm sure I'm sure the competition committee, when they next meet, will be taking a fresh look at."

No, Cowboys are in NFC East and they play more West than the Mavs. Therefore, Mavs should move to East.

Take 6 division champs and next ten best teams by record.

Seed them all 1-16 with no guaranteed seeding for division champs.

Let the madness begin.

No, they need more divisions, like 10 divisions of 3, so that the Texas teams play each other 6 or 8 times.

The pelicans and grizzlies can make a division with the hornets.

Using the double post to add that 15 divisions of 2 would really amp up the rivalries.

Again, grizzlies can go with bobcats

The new divisions they did a while back suck.

Go back to 4. Pacific, Midwest, Central and Atlantic

Maybe they could follow the NFL divisions to piggy-back off of existing NFL rivalries. For example, the Mavs would be in the same division as the 76ers, Nets, Knicks, and the Wizards.

Spurs will be with the non-NFL cities - Lakers, Jazz, Blazers, Rockets...

As always, travel is the cause and effect.

Is it fair the Northeastern teams travel in a 350 mile radius, Midwest teams travel 550 miles, while the Southeast teams travel 700 miles; the West Coast/Southwest teams travel 1500 miles?

What is fair? What isn't?

EC teams not named the Pacers & Heat have a combined record of 5 -34 vs. teams in the SW division.
