A few of those pretty pretty big duds. Ian Mahinmi never really got the game. Picked right ahead of David Lee and Monta Ellis. Though both their defenses probably aren't good enough for Pop.

There was serious discussions at one point on whether then Spurs should trade the rights to Manu or Gordon Giricek.

Spurs didn't really draft Barbosa. He was drafted for Phoenix, who made a draft day deal with the Spurs. He was Phoenix's pick. I think the same thing with Dragic.

On the topic of drafts, there's not many guys that are still on the team that were drafted by SA.

Tim, Tony, Manu, Splitter, Joseph. That's it. 17 years of drafts and 5 guys are still here.

I think you can consider udrih a good pick. How many players stay in the league for a decade?

Leonard was the Spurs pick, too. You have to count him.

Thats kind of a long period to look at though. 17 years? It compares dudes drafted 17 years ago to dudes drafted 1 year ago. Might be better to look at how many draftees were on the team within 5 or 6 years of being drafted. Though thats also difficult. Some guys leave because they want more money. Some guys leave because they get cut.

Mahimi and Udrih are still in the league getting minutes. Blair as well. Honestly, based on where they draft getting guys who stick in the league is pretty impressive. And don't forget about Hill who starts in Indiana. He was a high twenties pick and they were able to flip him for a 15 pick in Leonard (who looks like a steal right now).

Also, Anderson is still on a roster I believe. He got cut when Danny Green and Gary Neal beat him out. That's two journeyman who the Spurs have developed into legit players.

DeColo was getting minutes in Toronto.

This team does a great job of drafting and in my oopinion an even better job of player development.

The Spurs have drafted so well, that they wouldn't be able to keep all their draft picks due to the Salary Cap anyway. Judging them by how many players are still in the league and getting minutes is a better metric.

I wish Dragic stuck around. Love the way that kid plays

The most impressive thing about the Spurs' drafting is where they draft and how high their hit rate has been with them drafting so late. Leonard was at 15 and Anderson was at 20 but outside of those 2 the Spurs haven't drafted anyone above 24. The Spurs have also done really well with 2nd Round picks considering.
