OKC could really use a guy like Vince Carter - deadly from 3, not the focus of the offense, and still enough pure athletic ability to get free in the paint. Watching the OKC offense is painful when those jumpers aren't falling. I've seen better offense in intramurals. Carlisle will always be a favorite of mine after schooling Spoelstra and Brooks 3 years ago, and flat out humiliating the Lakers. I wonder if Dallas would have 3 titles ('06, '07, '11) if he had been with Dirk longer. That '06 season was painful, overcoming so many tough teams, and then collapsing against Miami. But my goodness, 2007...have 67 wins ever been wasted so poorly?

So you're saying that Avery Johnson isn't as good as Rick Carlisle????

A Carlisle-led Mavs wouldn't have beaten the Spurs in '07.

Carlisle is a damn good coach. A special coach is often necessary to get a solid (but unspectacular) team over the hump. The spurs are the best example. Poppovich took a bunch of league average players, added a few above average team-first guys, plugged them into his system, and went on to win 4 titles.

You can win championships that way as long as you don't have to play ultra-talented teams like they ran up against last year. In '07 the Mavs were clearly more talented than the spurs, so it only stands to reason that with a competent coach guiding them that they would prevail without a lot of resistance.

Carlisle is a much better coach than Avery. the mavs wouldn't have made the playoffs this year with Avery.

Not able to beat the Baron Davis led Warriors in the first round. Clearly more talented than the NBA champions. Makes sense.

Pop needs to thank the refs for kicking Blair out of Game 4 and the NBA for suspending him from Game 5, amirite?

It may not have even gone to Game 7. It is crazy to think about though. There was a very real chance, especially if they had not blown game 1, that the Mavs could have knocked the spurs out before they gathered themselves for their playoff run to the championship.

More importantly, Pop should be thanking Carlisle for waking his team up. They have been nasty since that series.
