I noticed in 2013, the schedule was games 1,2 in miami, 3,4,5 in SA, and 6,7 in miami. This year, its 2 and 2, then 1,1, and 1. Why is it different this year?

Basically, because they can. League changed the finals format.

Because 2-3-2 is a dumb leftover from the days when getting from LA to Boston was difficult.

I like the new system better. Spurs probably would have won game 6 last year if the game were in SA

Spurs homecourt is doubly advantageous this year.

Ok maybe not doubly, but it is a highly advantageous schedule for a team that is playing lights out at home.

2-3-2 kind of sucks for the home team, because if everyone wins the games they "ought to", you actually end up behind in the series. On the other hand, 2-3-2 was even worse for the road team because they had to win 3 straight. It's tough to beat any playoff team 3 times in a row, but if you drop one of them you have to win back-to-back on the road.

The best situation from a competitive standpoint is 1-1-1-1-1-1-1.

I think 2-2-1-1-1 is at least as fair (if not more so) as 1-1-1-1-1-1-1.

In both, each team is guaranteed two home games before anyone can be eliminated, with the home-court-advantage team getting game 5 and game 7 opportunities to break a potential tie at home.

At least BOTH teams get more rest early in the 2-2-1-1-1 format since so much travel time is cut out vs every other game alternating sites.

No more Stern, so you can get rid of some stupid rules.

In 1984, we had a 62-20 team featuring a bunch of white guys going up against a 54-28 team in a 2-2-1-1-1 series with a brand new Jewish Lawyer Commissioner from NYC.

Since then, Stern changed it to 2-3-2.

Now in 2014, we have a 62-20 team featuring a bunch of white guys going up against a 54-28 team in a 2-2-1-1-1 series with a brand new Jewish Lawyer Commissioner from NYC.
