Buck Harvey is tweeting the following:

quote:
Duncan decision coming, and here's an option I'm hearing: Opts out and signs a 2-year deal that both lowers payroll and rewards him.

quote:
This is just a rumor, from a reliable source, but it's certainly nice to hear that one of the options for Tim is to come back not just for one season, but maybe two. If this turns out to be what happens it won't be the first time Timmy has taken less money than he could get to help the team. Tim would most likely make substantially more money on a new deal as well, but over a longer period of time that would free up some space to help the Spurs retain the services of Boris Diaw and Patty Mills who will both become unrestricted free agents on July 1st.

Excellent "team player", he knows what needs to be done for a shot at another title.

Woj already reported that Timmy opted in.

Interesting. That would mean free agency 2015 would be pretty boring for the Spurs. Most of their money will be tied up in Duncan, Leonard, Splitter, Diaw, and Mills (assuming both those guys re-sign this year). That would be without re-signing Parker and everyone else who becomes a free agent that year.

The opt in is only for one additional season correct? If so, that would seem to me like he's gonna try for one more title and then call it quits. Along with Manu and Pop.

Yea I just read he exercised his option. Either way he will be making a run at number six which is great news for spurs fans.

Good. That way, in 2015 he, Tony, and Manu can all sign for the veteran minimum and get Lebron to San Antonio.

So much for being a "team player", he took the cash which I really can't blame him...

quote:
A person with knowledge of his situation confirmed that the Spurs big man has decided to exercise the 2014-15 player option on his contract that is worth $10.3 million. The person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because the team had not yet announced Duncan's decision.

So much for being a team player? He opts into the last year of his contract that was much, much smaller than it could have been and suddenly he's not a team player? Spurs are still getting great value at 10 million per year.

If you want "so much for being a team player", look at Kobe's career and last contract.

plum, it's already been discussed that him taking less money would only marginally help the team, if at all.

Unless he took the Vet Min and freed up $20mm.

Then Peter Holt stumbles and drops 1% of the Spurs and Duncan finds it when he retires.

Not a "team player?" Another non-Spur fan with a brilliant observation.

Yes, I realize that he could be making $30+ Mil/year.

I was just referring to the tweet from Buck Harvey that he would renegotiate for two years.

I was hoping it would free up some cap room for Diaw and Mills. As stated above it probably would not have had that big an effect anyway.

I am so very sorry that got everyone's panties in a wad...

Not really but I said it for consumption anyway.

This thread title is pretty much the strongest case you can make for proper hyphen usage.

Loco es loco. Gilbert Arenas is making twice TD, and is retired. Pretty selfish for one of three players to have 5 rings and 3 finals MVP's. Magic & MJ are the others.
