I liked his comment about inventing the white man Dreamshake.

Dirk's had a fantastic career. I dislike the Mavs a lot but I'm glad he got himself a ring. (Especially since he beat Miami to do it)

Waiting to hear from Mav fans how Dirk is better than Larry Bird again.

The Dream is one of my favorite athletes of all time. He'd have zero rings if Jordan hadn't dabbled in baseball.

This gets posted here so much. Just FYI, the Rockets were 5-1 vs. Jordan's Bulls between 1991-1993. Most of the games were blowouts. Very bad matchup for the Bulls, I have no doubt that the Rockets would have beaten them in the Finals. And in 1995 Jordan was back, they just didn't make the Finals. If not for John Stockton, the Rockets would have finally had that chance against the Bulls in 1997, but it wasn't meant to be.

This. MJ got stomped by Shaq & Penny. He average 31p, 6.5r, 3.7a, and 2.5s that series.

Nice work with the stats... Dispels the typical argument you hear that Jordan wasn't back in form yet in 1995. Those numbers don't lie.

So...back to Nowitzki....

Great player and great guy. Keep going!

It's hard not to like Nowitzki even as a Rocket fan just like it's hard not to admire Duncan. Basketball career stats don't carry a lot of resonance for most people like baseball, but he'll pass Elvin Hayes and Moses Malone later this season in points, pretty incredible.

I think he's far enough into his career for us to admit that he's not only the best Dirk to play the game ever (sorry, Dirk Minnifeld), but perhaps the Bucks did not make the best move by trading him & Pat Garrity for Robert Traylor, may be rest in peace.

I don't know who would have won a playoff series, but regular season head-to-head records are not that useful for predicting who will win a playoff series. There is an impact on the probability, but the higher seed still usually wins the series.

Tell that to the 6th seed Rockets.

You are right, and what you said can apply to the folks that say the Rockets would have never won against Jordan. It's an idiotic argument that people throw out there to discount the Rockets titles. By that logic every title won since Jordan retired doesn't count either since he wasn't around.

I forgot to put "head-to-head" in that post. IMO, the Rockets head-to-head wins in the regular season are not as telling as Rocket fans tend to think. It was true in 1995 and true in 2014... even though the Rockets went 4-0 against the Spurs in the regular season, the Spurs would have cut them apart in the playoffs.
Farmer1906

Sure they would have.
Ulrich

I mean, I can see how the Rockets fans have talked themselves into it, since the Rockets and the Spurs played so similarly against common opponents in the playoffs.

Spurs like unbelievable team ball and earn their ship. No doubt about it. They would have been the favorite, but as the saying goes match up makes fights well match ups could make a series too and since it never happened then I guess it doesn't really matter and no way to prove who's right or not.
Ulrich

I think it would have been a little better series than Portland managed, but the Rockets didn't have playoff-caliber defense last year. The Rockets worry me a lot more this year because of the continuity with their coach and stars and the defensive upgrade at SF (without giving up nearly as much on offense as many believe).

Rockets have made a big point to emphasize defense this year. Very promising so far.

Also, come on now... you know the only worse predictor than regular season head to head is performance against common opponents

It's amazing how often Rockets and Mavs fan bring me up when I have nothing to to with the conversation.

1. I don't see a single person mention you in this thread.

2. Your holier than thou trying to correct everyone posts seem to rub people the wrong way. That's probably why.

Dirk #1 in scoring per 48 minutes at age 36.

Absolutely unbelievable specimen. Won the greatest and most impressive ship since the Jordan days.

I've yet to figure out why, but for some reasons a lot of Mavs fans think that... I suspect it's because they only have one, so there's no basis for comparison. Every championship is special in its own way, but there's not really anything that sets the Mavs run apart from other title runs.

Yeah, but neither 2007 nor 2014 count.
