Yes, I could have stuck in on another thread. Don't care.

Game 3 of the 2005 NBA Finals was the first time the Spurs gave up 90+ points in a Finals game. In their first 13 Finals games, the Spurs gave up < 90 pts.

I don't blame people who watched the Spurs from 99-08 and thought they were a tad boring. The Spurs defense during those years, especially the championship years was insanely good. The Spurs started their transition offensively to a more up tempo way and lost that defense from 09-12. In 13, with the addition of Leonard the Spurs regained that defense finishing 5th in total defense while getting close to mastering the new up tempo offense that had been implemafed a few years back. Last year the Spurs continued to improve defensively finishing 3rd in total defense while finally mastering the new offense and we know what the results were. For anyone who has really kept up with the Spurs throughout the Duncan era saw this steps taken by Pop and realize how much of a process it was to get back to elite status.

This year IMO through the early part of the season, the Spurs are fielding the best defense in the NBA and that's without one of their best defenders in Splitter. If and once they get the offense clicking again I see no reason the Spurs can't make another deep run as long as health permits.

Incredible stat though.

If that were true, wouldn't it be first 13 finals games? 5 + 6 + 2?

Yea that was a head up my ass moment. For whatever reason I was only thinking of their Ws (4+4+2) and not their Ls. So yea, they didn't give up more than 89 points in their first 13 games in the Finals.
