Not a surprise if Price gets moved.

The questions are... to whom? For what? When?

At 28, he is prime. 2 years control. growing cost.

I think there aren't that many teams who can effectively cobble together a package with $ cost.

As a Rangers fan, we've fawned for years over him. Some years more than others.

Darvish - Price - Holland - Perez - Ogando. WOW. WOW!

Rangers have bigger problems, I know.

It took four prospects including Myers to get Shields last year. I don't believe Texas has anyone as valuable as Myers was to offer, but not sure how others would view Profar.

Well, four prospects for Shields and Davis.

By that measure, we're looking at three (maybe four) prospects. One MLB ready guy, two AA/AAA starters, maybe a single A guy to round it out.

At least one pitcher, probably two. Promising field player. Long term project.

Rangers fans.. I'm starting to see a dangerous trend. The minute you start consistently sending prospects away every year the worse off you will be.

The cardinals are not successful because they grab the best free agents or make the best trades. They grow from within and ALWAYS have a good farm. Please don't ever pull an Astros and blow the future on a handful of players.

Carlos Beltran...Chris Carpenter...Lance Berkman ...Matt Holliday (trade)

St. Louis is good every year because they do everything pretty well. (Including trading for good prospects- Wainwright, Freese, etc...)

How many of those guys did they give up 3-4 prospects for?

They traded two first round picks (you know one of them well*) and a second rounder for Holliday.

I absolutely agree, though, that its a severe strain on the long term outlook if you go too far with trades.

St. Louis is a great example of being prudent and efficient with trades (as well as anything else).

Exactly. The guys you gave away last year were blocked and had nowhere to go. Not bad trades. But when you get in the habit of always shopping your system for the next marginally better player on your big league team.. you can get in trouble.

I think he is in a recovery room, somewhere.

Seriously... last I heard expectation is that he "should" be ready for the start of the season, without any expectation of how close to 100%.

I agree about the sentiment.

Price would give up 2 years of team control and would cycle well with our other SPs.

Darvish (27) through 2017.
Holland (27) through 2017; '18 option
Ogando (30) through 2016
Perez (22) through forever
Price through 2015

All of those end up controlled through like age 33-34. By 2015, Perez hopefully has some skins on the wall to replace Price.

Then, we have Tepesch (24) will be a AAA SP we can fill-in.
Luke Jackson (21-AA) likely makes it in 2015 and play the role of Perez.

With SP... if we can develop 1 per year, we can replace.

Regarding the rest of our Farm... we have the talent.... Oh do we have the talent. With Profar and Perez having made the jump... our next set of hitters is still 2015 or later.

Rougned Odor
Jairo Beras
Luis Sardinas

ALL legit prospects.

Hmm... 24yo AAA and 21yo AA pitchers? That's not bad, the Rays will definitely consider that a good starting offer.

Andrus or Profar will be in a St. Louis uniform next year.

Here's what they're saying in CardsTalk:

Oh, and you can have SPs Lynn and Westbrook, and as a bonus reliever Mujica, all for FREE!

I dont think I can imagine the Cardinals with an actual all star caliber shortstop. Shouldn't yall be looking for the next Eckstein stil?

Rafael Furcal was a decent fix but his days are pretty much over. The Kozma experiment will be over after their season ends. They'll make a run at Andrus or Profar. Tulo woukd cost too much.

Speaking of Kozma, you can have him, Freeze and Jay for free, too!

I hope Tavares is ready to take over in CF next season. I don't see them moving Adams, so maybe Craig can shift over to RF if they don't re-sign Beltran. I can see Beltran in a Yankee uni next year. Would like to see them experiment with Craig at third and shop the offseason for a corner OF.

Prospects are currency in baseball. If you have a roster like the Rangers, and can trade an unknown for a known in a equitable trade, there's nothing wrong with it. For every Profar, there are 25 Justin Smoak's.

I agree, if you are aging in some positions, it's probably not wise to trade all your prospects away there.....but trading prospects isnt' bad, if you're not dumb about it.

The key is to not spend all your currency, and to replenish it.
