And by nowhere near... you mean 1 game out, right?
They had the 4th best ERA in the AL, despite major injuries, and despite getting 62 GS (38%) from 5 guys with a combined 8 GS coming into the season. Four of which were NOT expected to be in the rotation.
Perez: 6\20
Grimm: 2\17
Tepesch: 0\17
Lindblom: 0\ 5
Wolf: 0\ 3
----------------
Other - Blackley: 23\3
-------------------------
Darvish (27) was 4th in AL ERA (2.83).
Holland (27) was 14th in AL ERA (3.42).
Ogando (30) at (3.11) would have been 8th, if he had 59 more IP.
Perez (22) at (3.62) would have been 18th, if he had 29 more IP.
All 4 of those are just entering their prime.
Nathan was 4th in AL Saves, and in 3rd best in BlSvs. He had the 2nd best ERA among the top Closers (Uehara doesn't count).
As it pertains to pitching...
Darvish \ Holland \ Ogando \ Perez... that is about as solid a 4-Man rotation as anybody has looking at 2014, 2015 and 2016. If they are healthy for 2014... they will be top 3-4 in AL ERA.
Add anyone... Harrison, CLewis, Garza, Price, Tepesch, Lindblom, Wolf, Blackley, Luke Jackson... and they'll still have a solid rotation for 2014.
Darvish, Holland, Ogando, Perez, Nathan... Cotts, Scheppers, Ross... all pitchers that other teams would covet.
Profar, Andrus, and Beltre ... all guys teams would covet. I believe at 25, Leonys Martin has made the transition, and will likely improve for 2014.
That's 9 guys right there, out of a 25 man roster... out of 15 spots (8 position, 5 SP, 1 CL, 1 DH) that are fine. DH, RF, LF, Catcher and a SP position are open. 2014 will be about adding talent... not removing it.
And today, the off-season officially begins.
HTH.
