Zito's off the books. Needed to fill the void of overpriced over the hill bullpen pitcher.

With how bad our offense was this year, good thing we used that extra money on another zito.

Although its still less than lincecum got last year. So that's something...

5-2, 2.74 era, 10.4 k/9.

In the playoffs, including two World Series rings.

And a Cy Young.

It's an overpay but unlike 2/3's like CJ, he's got the skins on the wall.

The real good news here is that my Lincecum gnome giveaway is not obsolete. His friend, my Brian Wilson gnome, on the other hand...

Timmy isn't one after whatever the hell happened in 2011, but I dare say the banner has been picked up by other guys and CJ Wilson isn't one of those guys.

I think the next question would be, if Tim isn't an ace having put up a 4 year run for the ages but followed it up with a couple of bad years, is CJ a number 1 having put up 2 "#1" years but followed them up with 2 not "#1" years?

I dare say if you question Timmy's aceness, you have to question CJ's #1ness.

As for Corleone's prediction that Timmy would be an ace going into 2011...anyone want to truthfully tell us they wouldn't have made that same prediction?

Are corleone and TxAggie2011 fighting one another regarding CJ Wilson now? His name wasn't even mentioned in this thread previously.

Not fighting, I was actually offering support for the notion that CJ is a #2 or lower.

Yet he's the driving force behind your post in this thread.

You're obsessed with a 2/3.

by your logic, kenny rogers was the ace for the 2006 tigers...not some guy named verlander. it's amazing you don't see how skewed your reasoning is.

I think Corleone's logic is that the playoff success(es) reinforce their "aceness" when couple with their regular season performances.

The argument for someone like CJ is this 4 year body of regular season work and/or that he put up those 2 big regular seasons.

Zito and Lincecum, as extraordinary as their dropoffs have been, all had more dominant runs, that included Cy Youngs and good playoff performances, than what someone like CJ has put up.

Playoff success isn't required to be an ace, but it sure doesn't weaken one's case.

His logic implies that playoff performances make or break your status as an ace or #1. Ceeej could have posted "ace" numbers in 2011, but because he didn't do well in the playoffs...that makes him a 2/3...(Not the #1 he had been all season long). That's the whole deal...he's can't even admit that Ceeej was a #1 for a team that was one strike away from winning the world series (twice). Its just really hard to take him serious when he puts the entire stock of a pitcher on his playoff performances.

CJ as an ace for TEX reminds me of Shane Reynolds being the ace for HOU for a 3-4 yr span.

Ace is defined by how much money a team gives you.

Mike Hampton = ace.
