No he didn't. His obsession with home runs and RBIs was as misguided here as it is in his other posts.

I know I'm being an a-hole, but I don't know how else to say it.

He loses value moving from C to 1B, but he'll also play more games and even with diminished value, he'll be a top 3-5 1B.

the Twins really messed up on that contract. If a small market team is going to pay a player $23 million per season for 8 years...he's gotta go for 30 HR & 120 RBI most seasons. Mauer is nowhere close to those production numbers. And there are still 5 years to go on the deal. Moving him to first base will extend his career, but also further excaberate the situation...need power from the corner infield spots -- not more singles

I'd agree, I guess, on the home runs if he wasn't a .323 career hitter and still hitting .320+ and putting up 45+ XBH a year.

RBIs...where to start, probably his 2009 MVP season when he hit .365 with 28 home runs while making about 10 million bucks. He made less than Justin Morneau and Joe Nathan. Mauer ended the year with 96 RBIs.

The Twins appear ready to fly with $100 million-ish payrolls. They've got $80+ million to put guys around Mauer.

That's enough cash to NOT pump out a roster where Mauer is the only guy hitting better than about .255.

Moving Mauer to 1st base sounds plausible since they got rid of their all-star first baseman; name escapes me. (Morneau?)

Mauer has one of the best hitting approaches in the game. He walks a lot and doesn't swing at bad pitches, but he also swings enough to not strike out too often and puts the ball in play. He has some power, but he plays in one of the most pitcher friendly parks in baseball. I'd love it if the Rangers would take on that contract because Minnesota couldn't afford it (assuming it doesn't cost us Profar).

He's Mr. Minnesota, he's going nowhere.

It's tough to get RBIs when the lineup around you blows, which has been the problem in recent years for him.
