Cano's people were reported to have met with Sandy Alderson a few days ago who represents a team that would in no way sign Cano.

It seems more likely that someone is trying to drum up a market for Cano to force the Yankees to play ball.

Reality will set in that Cano is not getting 10yr/$300M.

A-Rod is 38 and look what A-Rod has done since 31.

If A-Rod was the greatest generational player ever... Cano will drop off even more.


A-Rod moved to a less intensive position than middle-infielder and was considered to have an incredible work ethic.

Cano will not likely move from 2nd base... and has been rumored to be suspect in his work ethic.

5yr/$100M is at the very high-end of what Cano should get.

Agree that it smells more like an agent stirring the pot vs. a realistic scenario. Cano wants a deal that will pay him huge money until he's in the ballpark of 40. The Rangers aren't going to go anywhere near something like that. If he somehow ends up a Ranger, it's going to be cause the market for him turned out to be relative crap. Someone's going to cave and pay. I don't think he'll get anything remotely near 10/$300 rumors, but I could see someone sucking it up for 7/$180-200.

I don't see the Rangers doing this - Cano & trading Profar.

Profar was considered untouchable and you could argue is more valuable than Cano at this point (he can give you a lot of great years).

They unloaded Kinsler (smart move) and picked up a great 1B. Now their infield is set. If you trade anyone, trade Andrus and get a guy like Cano. Andrus value is not near Profar's or Cano's. Low OBP, no power and his agent is Scott Boras. No thanks!

In his career - Fielder destroys the ball at home (even in Detroit a pitcher's park), imagine what he'll do in Arlington. Last year he had to deal with his divorce, off the field garbage. This is a fresh start for him and a great trade for both teams.

makes sense on many levels... you get your lead-off hitter with big OBP and some speed and you don't give up Profar. Plus Choo won't cost near what Cano will.
