Cartilage injury to knee. No ligament issues apparently, but that's a long time for a cartilage recovery. Getting into microfracture territory.

Listener just sent in a link on The Ticket for his club hockey game he played in on Monday night. Derek Holland is listed to be in the same league and listener is confirming it's him. The Injury is said to have "occurred" Tuesday morning.

Something about stairs in his house... dude was probably sliding down the stairs on cardboard.

This one hurts...

Dodgers have said they will not be outbid. He goes to the Dodgers, IMO.

He's becoming one of those "it's always something" guys. Not necessarily injury, just general inconsistency with stretches where you can rely on him and stretches where you can't. Had a nice, consistent year last year so I thought he was turning the corner. Maybe not.

Luke Jackson, Rougned Odor, Derek Holland, and Mitch Moreland for David Price?

If this is a hockey injury Holland will be losing some $$$. That's got to be a contract violation. Stupid if true.

His dog tripped him going up the stairs. Freak injury's suck, but I could definitely see hitting a knee on the edge being painful and destructive to cartilage. Hell, I've been tripped countless times by my own dog, though I've never injured because of it.

We should ban dogs. At a minimum have "dog free zones."

Going upstairs is verboten for our dog. Sounds like Holland may need to institute this policy. More of a floor cleanliness motivation since the downstairs is mostly wood while upstairs is all carpet, but I guess it's a safety bonus too.

Jackson and Odor are both likely to be Top 3 prospects in the Rangers org, going into the season... both will likely see MLB action in 2014.

Holland - #2 at worst.

Moreland - cheap and serviceable.

HTH.

Top three in the Texas organization doesn't translate to top three everywhere else.
Jackson spent last year in AA. The rotation in Tampa is well known; the rotations in Durham/Montgomery have 4-5 guys looking to see time in the bigs, a couple of whom have already tasted their first cups of coffee.

The Rays are maybe a little less set for young depth at middle infield, but they already have Rodriguez on the top squad, and a player or two equal to Odor in AA/AAA.

Holland - #2 at worst.

When the Rays have Moore, Cobb, Archer, Hellickson, etc... Holland is a #3 in Tampa.

Moreland - cheap and serviceable.

Friedman has found cheaper and more serviceable.

It didn't. And still didn't address the ridiculous suggestion of the four of them for David Price.

Is this the same world that CJ Wilson is a #3 at best?

Holland - 4.8 - 11th in MLB

CJ - 3.3 - 31st in MLB

I would rather the Rangers just go all out for Tanaka than give up a package for Price. You would still need to sign Price to a long term deal afterwards and why would he forgo his ability to become a free agent? Tanaka, although expensive in his own right could at least be under team control for several years after signing.

Agree 100%.

I don't think they land either, but I'd much prefer going after Tanaka vs. giving up talent for Price (and a crapload of $$$ if you want him as a long-term solution). If I thought that highly of Tanaka, I would at make the LAD's work for it vs. letting them scare me off with some public proclamations - actions speak louder than words.

I don't think the Rangers go after either with any seriousness.

Price - Rangers would give up too much future talent. We can argue what it would cost of the willingness of Tampa to take our terrible prospects (sarcasm) - Odor, Jackson... Holland... that is approaching too much to give up for any player whether it is a worthy player or not.

Tanaka - Greinke signed 6yr\$147 - $24.5M/yr. I think LAD gave up a pick to sign him. IMO, that is the starting point for final negotiations with Tanaka. In addition to posting fee ($20M). The LAD have said money would not be an issue with their attempts to sign Tanaka.

Kershaw - He has great interest in Tanaka. He will likely sign for even more than Tanaka. The Dodgers have $207M committed already for 2014.

$141M for 2015 for 11 players. Billingsley is a $14M team option for 2015. HanRam is a FA, whom they are looking to sign.

Kershaw, Tanaka, Greinke
Kemp, Puig, Crawford

WOW...

I didn't say they were terrible.

All I was saying is that the Rays wouldn't get appreciably better through that trade, except for the salary dump. Argue about Holland's ceiling, but he's on the shelf for a while now. Moreland is a decent platoon 1B/DH, but that's about it. Jackson/Odor are very good, but young, and at positions of depth for the Rays.

Not a good return for a Cy Young winner.

Start talking about Alfaro, then there's something worth discussing, imo.

Price is a proven #1.

Tanaka is an unproven #3.

And midseason is optimistic.

Very good chance we don't see Derek at the big league level at all in 2014.

As I was afraid of and suspected, it was microfracture after all. Long and uncertain recovery ahead.

I'm pretty much with you. Given the track record of microfracture, that mid-season estimate seems very optimistic. Missing all season seems much more likely than being back by the ASB.
