Question for all you fantasy baseball types: Should I draft Kershaw or McCutchen in my upcoming draft?

Background: I play in a 16-team keeper H2H league, standard 5x5 scoring, with rosters of:
C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF, OF, OF, U, SP, SP, SP, SP, RP, RP and 8 bench spots. Teams are only allowed 30 add/drops per year which limits SP streaming.

Currently on my roster I have Miggy, Adam Jones, Carlos Gomez, and Y. Cespedes.

Given the fact that I have 3 OFs I planned on taking Kershaw over McCutchen (they are by far the two best guys in our draft this year). But we get to keep guys for four years and I love the idea of having McCutchen from age 27-31. I'm totally on the fence with this one.

Appreciate any advice.

Don't you kind of like having Kershaw from age 26 to 29?

Yes, absolutely. So you are correct, that is really a push. Both guys should be in their prime years. If anything Kershaw might theoretically have a little more upside over his current level, although it's hard to see how that's possible given his current level of K's, innings, and WHIP.

...if you haven't already picked I'd definitely go McCutchen over Kershaw in a 5x5 HTH. Yes you already have a lot of offense from your keepers, but McCutchen is a guy that will help 5 stat categories and Kershaw will help you in 4. Also since it's a 16 team league the relevant hitters will come off the board pretty quickly. I'd much rather have elite hitters and depth at starting pitching than the other way around.

Put this way - if in the middle rounds you are loading up on SPs and end up with more good SP innings versus your opponent, you can usually make up for the difference from an elite SP or two just by the non-elite but quality volume you can throw. A couple guys like Minor or Bailey with a bunch of guys like Salazar, Cole, Masterson, Garza, Kluber, or Estrada can out IP your opponent and make you very competitive in pitching even without any elite guys.

You can't make up those elite stats on offense by having a bunch of guys like Pagan, Hart, and Leonys Martin on your bench.

In 5x5 HTH I take elite hitter over elite pitcher in almost every situation.
