Grimm is gone.

could be the Rangers #2 for 3 yrs
WOAH!!! Tap the brakes big guy... One good year doesn't return him to glory, IMO.
Yes, he has a 3.92 career ERA... but he was very pedestrian in 2011 & 2012... and a career 1.345 WHIP.
Without question best he'd be is their #4, IMO.
Darvish - Perez - Ogando (Career 3.12\1.136).
I have more confidence in Ogando staying healthy, than Ubaldo duplicating last year.
After this year, the rangers have:
Darvish-Perez-Ogando-Harrison-Holland.
Harrison will likely contribute in 2014... likely 2015 and 2016. Holland may not contribute in 2014... but by 2015 and 2016 should be back.
So, your argument is Ubaldo would NOT be the Rangers #2 in 2015 and 2016, but more likely not cracking the Rangers rotation in 2015.
Luke Jackson (22) will likely be talked about in ST 2015. He ended the season in AA.
Alex Gonzalez (22) will be sniffing the bigs in 2016.
Point? SP is not as huge a hole as OF was.
For OF, we needed help. Our biggest 3 prospects were all in Myrtle Beach.
Choice was an option. Engel Beltre stumbled but finished strong in Winter ball. Leonys Martin left Winter ball to get dental work...
I wasn't huge on the Choo signing... so I'm not defending it... but I think you can see why it was done. Rios is a club option after this year. Martin is signed through 2015. So, at a minimum, we have no real OF after 2015. We now have Choo (1 for 3 positions).
Even in 3 years, we don't have the OF help we'll need.
SP - we'll have 8-9 options in 2016, for 5 spots. AND... the FA SP available after 2014 is quick deep.
