I just sold my tickets yesterday.

$18 seats out in left field, upper deck, for $125 each.

Boo. Yah.

not worth it. Back when true fans went on Opening Day it was fun, now with the lottery it has become to corporate.

Haven't missed one in 30 years.

Yep.

We ditched our season tickets this year, and didn't win the ticket lottery to buy tickets, so I'll be working that Monday.

Been to about 7 opening days in the past, and agree with what it's become.....

I agree that it's a somewhat more rich/corporate crowd, but if the alternative is the "way it used to be" with 90 loss teams, I'll take how it is now.

Good or bad team, opening day was always special.....

Obviously love that the Rangers have a better product on the field but as far as the crowd and type of people that go to the games, prior to 2010 was much much better than today.

Went last year and it was a blast. Got to boo the crap outta Josh Hamilton and beating the Angels is always sweet. Still trying to find tickets to this years game. BTHO Cliff Lee and the Phillies!

These bandwagon fans help pay for Fielder and Choo.

Well worth it!

Finally getting to go to my first opening day this year. Hasn't ever worked out with school before so I'm pretty excited for it.

Anyone have tix they want to sell for a reasonable profit before I make someone rich on stubhub?

if this keeps up, all of you going to opening day will only see starters in 30% of the positions.

I'll wait until June when all 9 starters are back for a true Opening Day!

I don't understand what this means. Opening Day is Opening Day regardless of who fills out the sellout crowd. And what does it mean too corporate? This isn't like the AAC where the crowd is full of people trying to see and be seen. Please explain, because I enjoy the hell out of Opening Day every year!

back prior to 2010, when you went to opening day, you were surrounded by baseball people.

Ever since the playoff runs, it has become a place to be seen. I use my sister in law as a litmus test. She is a typical Dallas "snob". Has to live inside the loop, only shops at Northpark, etc.

She would never go to games, however the past 3 years she has wanted to, and has attended Opening Day. If you cannot notice it, then you were never there prior to The Rangers improving.

So what you're saying is when a team produces better on the field, they gain more fans?

People aren't complaining about Opening Day no being too "corporate", they are complaining about Opening Day now being too expensive.

I can tell you I've had significantly more fun going out to Opening Day the last few years knowing we had a contender out on the field. Add to that, the tailgating scene for Opening Day at Rangers Ballpark has increased five-fold.

the reason it is more expensive is all the bandwagon fans want to go now. The actual face price per ticket is up 10%? maybe 15%?

I was only going off what friends have told me, so I could well be wrong. Unfortunately, other commitments have kept me from going to Opening Day the past 3 years, so I don't know how it is from first-hand experience. This is the first year I'm actually free to go, but couldn't get tickets through lottery. We decided season tickets were too much of a hassle the last couple of years, so we didn't renew this year, either.
mhayden

No doubt it is in higher demand due to the better product on the field... Back-to-back WS appearances and some marquee players will do that.

But I really don't feel like OD is any more "corporate" than it was before. Being an mid-week, afternoon game, you always had your business guys in the prime seats.

My point is that every year Opening Day is one of the greatest days.

Regardless of who else is showing up to the ballpark, it represents the beginning of the 162-game trudge that in recent years isn't just pipe dreams of going .500 and sniffing the division crown.

And yes, I've been going for longer than current run but I like the electricity that a full stadium brings and like someone said, the tailgating is great now. Give me that every year and I'm loving it.

i'll be there.

our tickets just fell through so I'll be heading out there cash in hand.

I am a season ticket holder.

The point about Opening Day not being what it used to be is this - very few of my fellow season ticket holders sitting around me will be there for Opening Day. This is one of the few days we can make huge $$$ mark up on our seats. And since we are going to at least 40-50 games per season anyway, what's one game?

And I've yet to hear what's so special about Opening Day other than IT'S OPENING DAY DAMMIT!
Aggie_Eric98

wbt, that kind of my point. True fans, season ticket holders, are capitalizing on the interest this team has and profiting. I don't blame you, but when this occurs less baseball fans are at the game and more people who want to be seen at opening day.

as far as why is it special, well it is opening day, that should be enough.

Annnnnddd another 22% of the starting roster tears something important 1 day after I shell out $300 on tix.

I'm there. 7th in a row. Corporate schmorporate. Opening Day is the best day of the year.

Yeah, I really can't imagine waking up Monday morning (or Friday morning in year's past) and firing up the TV to watch Opening Day.

For those that compared it to 30 or 40 other games in the year -- not at all. To steal part of a quote "... no other day is so pure with possibility. No scores yet, no losses, no blame or disappointment."

except this year of course, seeing how most people are conceding the west already because Profar and Soto are hurt.

Soto's injury is more troubling than Profar's in my opinion. Arencibia has not really been the guy we are hoping he'd be. The catching situation continues to be one of the great black holes of this thing.

Let's just make it to the All-Star break within striking distance and hope we make a run in the second half.
mhayden
How long do you want to ignore this user?
No one is conceding the West because of Profar and Soto.

They are worried about the West because what Texas had hoped to be their #1, #2, #3 and #4 starters are all injured.

At least we'll get a lot of the fake Robbie Ross.

Heading down to Ballpark in Arlington in a couple of hours. I sure would feel better if the pitching rotation was up to par. Supposed to be strong winds today - maybe a few "jet stream" dingers for our newest Rangers.
