I watched the NESN feed. They kept showing that stuff. I was surprised the Sox didn't have Pineda checked. It was all over his hand and forearm.

Ortiz and pedroia didn't seem to care. If it was that big of a deal wouldn't they make more of a stink about it?

Crisco, Bardol, Vagisil: Any one of them will give you another two to three inches drop on your curve ball. Of course if the umps are watching me close I just rub a little jalapeno inside my nose, get it running, and if I need to load the ball up a little just wipe my nose.

My guess is they know some pitchers on their team do it so they don't want to make a big deal.

Perhaps Farrell didn't report it to an umpire because Jacoby Ellsbury is sitting on the Yankees bench knowing all the secrets of the Sox pitching staff.

It's not an isolated event. There are a grand total of zero teams who are lilly white when it comes to rubbing up baseballs with foreign substances.

Pineda had pine tar on his neck tonight. John Farrell asked the umps to check him out and Pineda got tossed in the 2nd inning!!!

It didn't look like Farrell wanted to say anything but he really had no choice! The last time, he got peppered by the media as to why he didn't say anything.

I can hear his thoughts as this:

"GD it! You idiot. Put that sheet where the national tv audience can't see it! Is that so effing hard you moron!!!! Now I have to say something! You effing meathead!"

Sounds like this is something that is an accepted baseball practice. Kind of like going 5-8mph over the speed limit. Pineda's mistake was being brazen about it.
