Said it then and say it now, Profar will be one of the many great prospects who will do nada.

I don't think Seattle has ever been willing to trade King Felix.

That being said, predicting that any prospect won't have a successful career is always the safe bet. All being a highly touted prospect means is that people consider your chance of success greater than the other prospects. It's still a low percentage play.

Ha! Too bad we turned down the Kershaw/Puig package the Dodgers offered for Profar too. I told everyone we ahould take that deal!

Can't say I remember that trade.

Did I miss something, other than they transferred him to the DL60 last week?

I don't know... announcing a 21 year old 2B a bust, when he had 85 Games and 324 ABs at 20... with 6 HRs and a .234 BA and a .301 OBP seems a little premature. .644 OPS.

Some perspective...

Cano was 22 when he made his major league debut. He hit .297 \ 14 HRs.
Pedroia was 22 - .191 \ 2 HR in 31 Games.
Kinsler was 24 - .286 \ 14 HR \ 11 SB

If this is your conclusion from them putting him on the DL60... shelving Profar for an extra month or so... at 21... to make a roster spot, is hardly a reason to panic, IMO.

They had to activate Colby Lewis and Noesi. Making room on the 40 by moving him to the DL60 made sense and has no impact on his ability or injury.

The Rangers have a number of players on the 40 because of injuries and readiness. Not to mention Rule Vs.
Feliz, Nick Martinez, Tepesch are all guys the Rangers anticipate using.
West, Engel Beltre (60DL), Font, Mendez, Mikolas, Parrino - All out of options

Sardinas (SS-20) is another guy they've used that is likely on standby.

Harrison (DL), Soto (DL60) and Holland (DL60) will all have to be managed. Harrison to the 25 man roster... Soto and Holland to both the 40 and then 25 man roster.

Historically, the Rangers haven't used the DL60 as aggressively. I remember them keeping Feldman on the DL for quite some time, only moving him IIRC, near the trade deadline when they made a trade.

Right now they have Engel Beltre there...if he wasn't out of options, they'd have normally just left him on the 40 until they needed to make a move. Soto the same.

If Profar hasn't lit up major league baseball by now, he's never going to.

right?

If you look at the studs they could have gotten for Profar, then it's very easy to call him a bust. Can that change? Sure it can. But to have one of the top 3/4 pitchers in the league coupled with Yu? World Series.

first of all - if we could've gotten King for Profar then I 10000% agree with you that we should've traded him.

but calling him a bust because we didn't trade him is awful logic.

and calling him a bust because he hasn't been an all-star before the age of 21 is silly.

Remind me again of the trade that I don't recall was ever made outside of Texags or other fantasy offers.

Felix has NEVER indicated he wanted to be anywhere except Seattle. He had many chances to wait to be a FA.

If he wanted to pitch somewhere else, he could have. Ask CLee and Pineda.

Any trade for Felix would not have been during a long contract that was team favorable.

And remind me what else was included in that trade... because the Rangers gave up Grimm, CJEdwards, Neil Ramirez and Olt for a trade deadline rental for soon-to-be FA Matt Garz.

Piag is right. Huge blunder by rangers.

Reminds me a lot if the Hunter Pence for Justin Verlander trade I proposed for astros.

I would say the Rangers passing on the Julio Borbon/Mike Trout trade proposal from the Angels in 2011 was probably a more damaging decision long term.

^not sure if serious

If JD was offered that...he should have been fired after the 2011 World Series. Trout was rated as the No. 1 prospect at the time.

I've never understood why JD gets a pas on the 2008 Elvis/Halladay trade not being done

Actually, JD's refusal to give up Roman Mendez in a trade for Carlos Gonzalez in the 2011 offseason probably set the franchise back 3-5 years. It almost makes me nostalgic for the John Hart years.

There were some pretty solid rumors that if the rangers would part with profar, Harrison and Grimm, they they could have gotten him. Rumors of course

BMX,
You never disappoint.

The only rumors that ever existed were Rangers based message board. I follow the Mariners insanely close, there was NEVER anything even considered.

That would have never gotten Felix. Considering Profar's first year in the Rangers organization was 2010, Felix was coming off a 2009 season where he went 19-5, and in 2010 he posted a 2.27 ERA and won the Cy Young. No way on earth Profar/Harrison/Grimm would have come close to getting Felix.

If there were "rumors", they were only spread by Rangers fans.

And Hernandez signed a contract extension just before the 2010 season. Are you maybe thinking of David Price for Profar?

Couple of comments.

1) A 21 year old middle infielder with power and plate discipline is not the kind of prospect you give up on.

2) GM's never leak information about trades that have a legitimate chance of happening. Most trade rumors are either pure speculation or bad information being given for posturing purposes.

Profar has HOF defensive ability. He will also be an excellent hitter in time. I predict a 15 year MLB career for him.
