Did I miss something, other than they transferred him to the DL60 last week?
I don't know... announcing a 21 year old 2B a bust, when he had 85 Games and 324 ABs at 20... with 6 HRs and a .234 BA and a .301 OBP seems a little premature. .644 OPS.
Some perspective...
Cano was 22 when he made his major league debut. He hit .297 \ 14 HRs.
Pedroia was 22 - .191 \ 2 HR in 31 Games.
Kinsler was 24 - .286 \ 14 HR \ 11 SB
If this is your conclusion from them putting him on the DL60... shelving Profar for an extra month or so... at 21... to make a roster spot, is hardly a reason to panic, IMO.
They had to activate Colby Lewis and Noesi. Making room on the 40 by moving him to the DL60 made sense and has no impact on his ability or injury.
The Rangers have a number of players on the 40 because of injuries and readiness. Not to mention Rule Vs.
Feliz, Nick Martinez, Tepesch are all guys the Rangers anticipate using.
West, Engel Beltre (60DL), Font, Mendez, Mikolas, Parrino - All out of options
Sardinas (SS-20) is another guy they've used that is likely on standby.
Harrison (DL), Soto (DL60) and Holland (DL60) will all have to be managed. Harrison to the 25 man roster... Soto and Holland to both the 40 and then 25 man roster.
Historically, the Rangers haven't used the DL60 as aggressively. I remember them keeping Feldman on the DL for quite some time, only moving him IIRC, near the trade deadline when they made a trade.
Right now they have Engel Beltre there...if he wasn't out of options, they'd have normally just left him on the 40 until they needed to make a move. Soto the same.
