So I am watching last night's Cards at Tampa game because Wacha is pitching. The Cards announcers just said something that made my jaw drop.

No player drafted by Tampa from 2008 to 2013 is currently on any MLB roster.

Tampa is a small market team that I've paid no attention to, but given their recent successes, I assumed that they were drafting well and doing a good job developing talent. Well, not since at least 2007 ...

That is a little crazy....I noticed Tim Beckham is on the DL and he's from 2008 I believe. Hard to believe they've been so successful.

Technically, incorrect. Outfielder Kevin Kiermaier was drafted by the Rays in 2010.

EDIT, I could bring up injuries and other things, but I'll hold off on that unless someone wants to make an issue of it.

I'd find that hard to believe. Maybe if it was limited to 1st round, or first couple of rounds.

2009 28th rounder Zac Rosscup has pitched for the Cubs this year but is currently on the DL... not that it makes things any better for the Rays

Maybe they're just stacked on the MLB roster so haven't had to call them up yet.

You're not completely incorrect. The presumptive starting pitching staff had four draft picks from 2006, 07, 08 and one from a trade. Throw in a couple of injuries (Beckham) and too many drug suspensions, and you get a low number of recent draft picks currently in the majors.

And, are we expecting to see many picks from 2013, 12, and 11 already in the majors?
