How much was he in charge?

Look at the Rangers two years ago....now look at them.

I gotta think he called more shots than JD would ever admit and we will regret the day we neutered him in the organization and ran him off.

AM I crazy?

He was in charge enough to get them to sign Oswalt but not so much in charge that his vote against getting Yu was trumped.

It sucks that Nolan was overruled when he tried trading Luis Sardinas for Mike Trout.

Let's face it. Nolan Ryan can cure cancer with his tears and win World Series trophies with his flatulence. This franchise never leaves the Benji Gil era without the omnipotent presence that is Nolan Ryan.

So yeah, Nolan could have been there to break Derek Hollands fall down the stairs. He could have gotten multiple injured players back on to the field with a single, icy stare. As Nolan often said, if your starting rotation isn't 12 deep, you're not really trying. Yeah, the departure of Nolan Ryan is exactly what killed this season.

I do believe that Nolan brought an element of toughness to the pitching staff that was very valuable. I'm sure he was involved in lots of things the Rangers did right during his tenure.

The fact that he was opposed to signing Yu Darvish and in favor of Roy Oswalt makes it pretty hard to think that he had more say or credibility than JD.

Anything Nolan Ryan is involved with turns to gold. The problem is that Rangers ownership could not find the ideal spot for him to fit long term.

Daniels is too good of a GM to have someone looking over his shoulder. The rangers were going to lose him if he wasn't granted the autonomy he had earned.

I liked what Nolan brought to the conversation.

Mike Maddux has done more for this pitching staff, than Nolan has done.

Nolan has gone to an ideal situation. He has his own legacy with the Astros and will build on it.

However, what Houston had... was what it was when he got there. I like what Houston had done before he got there. They'll improve... he may tweak a few things, but the Astros have a solid system and it was before he got there.

Kudos to him. He served the Rangers with grace. The Rangers are better for him having been here. Pitching and running the organization.

I'm not hurt that he left. I'm not disappointed he isn't here.

He provided credibility and confidence at a time when the organization desperately needed it, but there's no question he became a 5th wheel over time. He's not much of a talent evaluator. Now they have quality ownership, a very good and experienced GM, and a deep amount of front office talent. He was a great asset at a time they needed it, but what has happened was just a natural evolution.

Yep if only Nolan had been around, he could have cured all the injuries. What is JD supposed to do when the team is decimated by injury after injury?
