Always love this list that used to be on Fangraphs and now they are writing for Fox.

5. Prince Fielder
4. Joe Mauer
3. ARod
2. Justin Verlander
1. Pujols (again)

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/just-a-bit-outside/story/dead-money-which-players-have-the-most-negative-trade-value-071614

And for the Rangers fans I need to throw this in:

quote:
Fielder is a great example of how players with negative trade value can still get moved as the Tigers traded Fielder to the Rangers last offseason, getting back Ian Kinsler in exchange in the single best transaction any team made all winter.

Who would have thought last year that Verlander would make this list. I'm actually not sure I agree with him at #2 as I think a team would more likely take his upside than some of the others on here, but it is a lot of money.

How can anyone be higher than ARod?

He's a guy coming off of neck surgery -- of course the contract isn't going to be move-able right now.

Not saying he will, but if the guy comes back healthy and starts hitting 30 homeruns again (which at age 31 isn't a very big stretch if he returns to health). then suddenly the value of that contract changes significantly.

Yeah...that's captain obvious level analysis on the Fielder/Kinsler trade.

Years left and total cost.

Well, he was #5 on last year's list as well. From last year:
quote:
He certainly isn’t untradeable, especially given the lack of bats on the market right now. I’d imagine Detroit could even get another team to pick up most of the rest of his deal. Even coming off a mediocre season, I could see Fielder getting $120 million over seven years from a team desperate for a cleanup hitter. But that is still well shy of what Detroit is paying him, and the Tigers would have to kick in a lot of cash in order to move his contract.

Last year was:
5. Fielder
4. Hamilton
3. Howard
2. ARod
1. Pujols

oh, the Twins...what in the world were they thinking? Still 4 more years after 2014 to pay Joe $23 million-a-year.

in his 10-year career, Mauer has hit 107 HR's...29 of them came in 2009. More than 25% in one year. Minnesota fell for it hook, line, and sinker...and then some

The Tigers are kicking in $30 million toward paying for Fielder.

So a Top 5 least-move-able contract last year was actually moved?

Guess that doesn't say much for the list.

To be fair I bet Mauer sells lots of tickets, jerseys, etc

Well, last years write up states Detroit would have to kick in money and I'd say most people would agree the contract is worse now than last year.

No reason to read once I saw Fielder on there.

I actually re-read, it's just total cost over current market rate. He has ARod at $67 mil above market (market being $0).

He has Verlander at $70 mil and Pujols at $91 mil.

I'm here too.

Is there ANYBODY in the MLB with a contract that would be less desirable to take on than his?

If there is one out there, I'd like to know WHY? Beyond on the field of course. I want to understand what it would take for the Yankees to move him? How much would it cost them? The recipients expected value etc.

I just can't see any scenario that it WOULD be moved without the Yankees paying ARod's total salary PLUS something to get it done.

The reason I say this is because if it was all about a monetary figure: it would have been done by now. The Yankees would pay ARods salary AND CASH to get rid of him at this point.

But nobody's taken it.

Why would they not just release him?

Right now he's suspended so they aren't paying his salary. I think if they cut him he would get paid.

Bobby Bonilla?

Since they don't pay A-Rod this year... if he is unable to play, doesn't he get a designation that affects his contract?

Somewhat. I'm sure he will be on the list a few years though.

Cano is definitely headed for it. A guy who will turn 32 in a few months is signed through 2023.

2023.
