Not too sure why they made this move. They traded Cosart away for 2 minor league Marlins players who have relatively struggled so far. Seems like pitching needed to be the priority and we let a promising young player go. Anyone have an explanation for this?

my explanation from the astros thread. this is just my opinion. I am not paid to analyze baseball players.

quote:
I look at it this way, we are adding premiere talent (and depth) at nearly every position:

3B: Rio Ruiz and Colin Moran
SS: Carlos Correa
2B: Already have Altuve
1B: A.J. Reed is in the works (we'll see if Singleton can figure it out)

Pitchers in the works:

Folty (AAA)
Wojo (AAA)
Tropeano (AAA)
Appel (AA)
Hader (A+)
McCullers (A+)

We had a good amount of young pitchers to trade, and we have a good amount in the upper portion of the minors or on the cusp of being in the upper portion of the minors who can fill that void when they are ready.

I agree that the perception that we are constantly in rebuild mode is annoying. But we are loading up our system with premiere players that you can build a foundation around. I don't see Cosart or Keke being a foundation player, and so they parted with them to add a player who could possibly fit that bill (Moran)

We'll see how it plays out

Moran was Miami's first rounder last year. The competitive balance pick will give the Astros a 3rd pick in the first 35 or so picks.
