This happened about 20 minutes ago in KC. FYI, there isn't a cloud in the sky this afternoon.

-----------------------------------
Two outs and a man on first
Oakland batting
High fly ball to center
Jarrod Dyson (playing CF) throws up his arms. He doesn't see it.
The ball actually hits his throwing (right) hand on the way down.
-----------------------------------

It's ruled an RBI triple. There's no way this doesn't get changed, right?!?

The rules stat it doesn't matter if the ball hits the fielder or not, just wether or not your standard everyday major leaguer at a given position would have made the play routinely. If, in the scorer's opinion, it's deemed unplayable by the majority of potential players, it should always be ruled a hit.

When a ball is lost in the sun, its almost always ruled a hit. Even though it hit him, if he wasn't attempting to play the ball because he didn't know it was about to hit him, I'd assume it would stand as a hit.

That should be ruled a hit much more so than the ol' "you got it, I got it" flub that they seem to always score a hit.

The ball did not hit his hand as much as Dyson tried to grab it with his off glove hand at the last second when he finally found the ball out of the sun.

I still haven't seen the play. I heard it on the radio (I live in Missouri) running some errands that afternoon.

FYI - It is easy to catch fly balls when there are clouds, the clouds actually help.
