I'm not too familiar with them but might very well make them my NL team (I'm a Rangers fan) because of the Houston move. I'm also an A.J. Preller/Don Welke fan.

What's the owner like? Is he a cheapskate? Does he want to win?

From what I know of the Poddy-Rays... they have had several former Rangers.

They are a low revenue team with a small following. Many of the people in SD were transplants (people leaving LA or Orange counties) or transient (military).

The stadium is a distance from the main populations and money...

And let's face it... if you've been to SD... would you rather:

1. Be at the beach
2. Be in a baseball stadium

I don't know that the owner is frugal, but they have a huge turnover of players and attempt to rebuild every few years. Which doesn't help develop a strong loyal fan base.

Like the Padres for the team... not the players.

The ownership group is new and is lead by the O'Malley's, former owner of the Dodgers. Hard to tell on spending yet.

Uh, what? It is perfect location and amazing. Chargers would KILL to have the same situation.

As a big fan of Tony Gwynn and the city, I've followed them for quite a while. There was a Grantland article when they fired their GM in June that provided a pretty good summary of why they are the position they are in. Definitely a series of ****ups vs one overriding reason.
