Was Cespedes that big of a cog for the A's?

Cespedes was pretty much their offense. This trade may go down as one of the worst in history.
Not sure how Beane hasn't been run out of town yet.

I don't revere Beane like some do, but I do disagree as to Cespedes' importance to the offense.

Donaldson and Moss gave them the power and while no one really has that high OBP approach needed in front of those two, Cespedes wasn't that player, either.

Moss has fallen off a cliff, and Donaldson has followed over the past couple of weeks.

A Rangers-like collapse. Couldn't have happened to a better group of guys.

I thought Rangers beef was directed towards the Angels for them having two of their former players? Why the attitude towards Oakland?

For me, the Angels are more like hating on Texas. The A's are more like Tech. They're kind of that fly in the ointment type of annoying.

Funny to watch Billy Beane and the A's grasping at straws. Adam Dunn? Really? Because he's the embodiment of Moneyball.

Yes, but it seems like all the local highlights (i live in the Bay Area), and the overall life of the team (including the offense) revolved around Cespedes. It seems like after he left the offense became rudderless and confused. Just my opinion, but who knows. Either way, it's an amazing collapse.

Energy and attitude can make a huge difference. He was their leader.

For me, I've always hated Oakland more than the Angels. My distaste for the Angels has grown over the last 4 or 5 years (although I don't think it had anything to do with CJ and Hamilton) but the A's will always be #1 in my Ranger's hate heart.

Exactly! This trade in essence killed the team. Beane's an idiot for not realizing what everyone in the Bay Area saw clear as day. The minute I heard about this trade I knew the As were done. Worst trade in recent memory.

on June 28th Milwaukee was 47-30...17 games over .500

currently 79-75 and will miss the playoffs
