I doubt it.

Without more to go off of than an unsourced blurb in the New York Daily News, right now it just sounds like a Canadian guy taking a shot in the dark.

There are many reasons why the Expos deteriorated...

From my Montreal friends... a MLB team could be successful in Montreal...

But then... I believe San Antonio, et al, places could be successful, as well.

If Dallas keeps growing, they might want to put a MLB team in Frisco.

It wouldn't be a bad idea in my opinion. If they do move, they would have to get a new stadium as Olympic Stadium is outdated for modern baseball. Additionally, they would likely switch divisions with the Marlins. This would allow Montreal to renew its old rivalries with Atlanta, Philly, and the Mets while creating a new rivalry with Washington (the original Expos). This would also help boost Miami attendance with the Yankees, Red Sox, and Orioles making frequent visits each year.

I wouldn't mind seeing them move there. Montreal drew 150,000+ for 3 spring training games this year. I'd rather play in front of passionate fans in Montreal than under an empty dome in the Sunshine State.

If Montreal built a true baseball park downtown, it would do well. Montreal is the 9th largest city in North America. If the team stayed in the AL East, it would have a natural rivalry with Toronto and it would keep the AL East teams from traveling more than 550 miles (about an hour and a half by plane) for the majority of their games.

Logistically it would make a lot of sense.

But, I doubt it will happen.

The location of Olympic Stadium... and the owner are two reasons often cited for why the Expos ultimately would never do well.

I don't see them leaving the Bay Area. If they moved to this side of the bay, they'd increase the fanbase proximity by probably half a million people. If they could put a stadium by the cruise ship channel (where the Lightning play) they would easily double their average game attendance.

Things I witnessed in person at The Big O.

1. A 2 hour plus rain delay where they had to Zamboni the outfield. Yes it was a domed stadium.
2. Dave Dravecky's broken arm while pitching to Rock Raines. Still gives me goosebumps to remember it.
