Looks like a done deal, menage a trois between the Rays, Padres, and Nationals.

From mlbtraderumors.com,
quote:
Young outfielder Wil Myers will head to San Diego as the centerpiece of the trade, and indeed the entire pact will depend upon the health of his balky wrist, Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports notes on Twitter. San Diego receives righty Gerardo Reyes and lefty Jose Castillo from Tampa as well. The Rays, in return, will receive Burch Smith and Jake Bauers. And the Pads and Rays will also swap catchers Ryan Hanigan and Rene Rivera. Much of Tampa's haul, however, will come from another source: the Nationals will send outfielder Steven Souza and young lefty Travis Ott to Tampa in exchange for righty Joe Ross and shortstop Trea Turner (as a PTBNL) , each of whom will head from the Padres to D.C. by way of Tampa.

SD: Myers, Reyes, Castillo, Hanigan
TB: Smith, Bauers, Rivera, Souza, Ott
WAS: Ross, Turner*

It will be interesting to see what impact today's announcement re-establishing diplomatic relations with Cuba has on Cuban baseball players that want to play in America. The embargo was not lifted so I don't think there will be a 100% free flow of players from the island. Rather, it sounds like some sort of deal would have to be negotiated between MLB and the Cuban government. It is probably too late in the offseason to negotiate a deal for the 2015 season, but I believe the 2016 season could be in play for Cuban baseball players that want to play in the major leagues without having to defect from the country.

I'm sure ol'Boog is thrilled this punk is carrying his name.

Buster rated Nationals as best rotation even before this deal. Now there's no question it's the best.

Anyone know the interest on the deferred money?

Scott Boras may be an ass, but he's the best damn agent in the history of sports.

I remember when Junior had that crazy deferred deal with the Reds and they were paying into an annuity or something that was payable after his contract ended until 2025 or something like that. Hope the Kid got his cash out before the market collapsed.

Boras is a genius. They're deferring the 105M, and he still gets his agent cut of that 15M per year as well. However to pay a player for 14 years for the Nationals is idiotic. Pay the money out sooner so if he sucks or gets injured, you get it over with
