Jurickson Profar had been throwing out to 105 feet with no major discomfort. He has been having MRIs every 3 weeks to monitor his situation. The MRI taken on Tuesday in Arlington showed increased strain on the subscapularis muscle in his right shoulder from the previous MRI. As a result, he will undergo right shoulder surgery on Monday in Arlington with surgery to be performed by Dr. Keith Meister. The timetable for recovery and rehab won't be determined until the extent of the surgery is known.

Another lost year for him. It's a good think the Rangers make a habit of stockpiling middle infield prospects.

You think that's all? I've heard serious discussion that even if his career may not technically be over, the Rangers will, when they can, wash their hands of this. But I don't know.

Not sure what's unclear. Meaning, the assertion is that the Rangers will think his career is effectively over and move on; just a release, waiver, whatever. No trade takers.

That was the assertion made. I'm wondering if a) the injury itself is so serious that this would even POSSIBLY be a scenario (i.e. it would be laughable if the injury is a pulled hammy) and b) the Rangers ARE actually thinking that.

What's unclear is anyone that is talking about releasing or waiving the preseason 2014 #1 prospect in baseball.

Not sure who was seriously discussing that, but it was somebody who doesn't follow baseball.

All this surgery does is push his timetable out a year. It's not a good thing and he could very well never pan out (which was possible with or without injury), but no one is even considering giving up on a kid who turned 22 three days ago.

What is preventing them from releasing him right now if that's the case? And what would they accomplish by doing that, especially for a player that they could park in low A if they wanted or get a solid return on in a trade?

FWIW THE biggest and most frequent player mentioned in trade rumors with Profar was Oscar Taveras
