Was at A&M Rice game at Olsen in ~1992, and the Rice catcher took a foul tip that hit off the back edge of the plate and hit the undercarriage. He went down in a heap for about 5 minutes, then finally was able to stay in the game. On the very next pitch, the exact same thing happened, and he fired his glove into the ground in disgust as he went down into the dirt again in agony.
maybe we should use castrati catchers?

That happened to me at a baseball camp when I was 12. And of course the freakish kid who could hit 70+ was pitching at the time.
Batter fouled it right into my balls. Direct hit. Both of them.

My buddy used to catch at A&M from 92-96'. took a foul tip one time; broke his cup. Messed him up pretty good; throwing up ; nuts swollen; etc. went to the doctor and found out he had about 3-4 testicles after the foul tip. we started calling him ET for the extra terr esticle. no Sh#$$t true story.
In all my years of playing catcher I never got hit in the nuts.
When I was in HS we had a freshman on the team who wanted to catch (small school with only 1 team). He forgot his cup one day at practice and the coach told me to take him off to the side and have him practice blocking balls in the dirt. Said he'd give me a quarter for every time I hit the kid in the nuts. After we were done I told coach he owed me $1.50.

I was the backup catcher back in HS. Mostly played second base and some third. I never wore a cup when I wasn't catching. This particular game I wasn't supposed to catch and was careless and didn't bring a cup. Sure enough, right before the last inning, our starting catcher rolls his ankle pretty bad rounding first base. I had to get behind the plate, but wasn't too worried about the lack of cup because there was only a half inning left and I had never taken a direct shot before.
Guess what happens on the first pitch? Foul tip right off the testicles. I crawled on all fours to the backstop and puked everywhere. I thought I was never going to have kids. My entire life flashed before my eyes. I look up into the stands and I see my grandma... She's laughing. I guess I can't blame her.

Only thing worse is a foul tip into the dirt that bounces back up and catches'em square on. Similar story as above poster, first and last time I forgot my cup I was a junior in HS catching Ben King (pitched for the sippers in 2000) and took a foul tip square in the meaty clackers. Walked out of the hospital with a grapefruit between my legs and with about a half-dozen stitches. I wouldn't wish that pain in my worst enemy.

I took one off the plate into my Adam's apple. Thought the ball collapsed my throat.
Just reading this thread makes me cringe. Didn't get all the way through to the end
I love all the "first and last time ever" cup stories. I think anyone that's been a catcher has one. I was about 15 when mine happened. Foul tip ricocheted off the ground and caught me flush. I was done catching for the day.
