The astros may prove everyone wrong, but they are not a team built to make a run in the playoffs. Too many guys that strike out in bunches hovering around the Mendoza line. Rotation is full of guys that have already set career highs in IP. Bullpen is a mess. They've had a great season, but looking at the astros roster, I don't see them making a run.

Yes, months really. The nosedive isn't what made me believe the astros would get passed. It became clear that the first month was more of an aberration and that the astros were really just a .500 ballclub. I'm someone that puts a lot of emphasis on veteran leadership and depth come September, two things the astros lack. I just never felt the astros were the best team in the division, and the first month record helped hide that. It's not a knock on the astros, as they are clearly ahead of schedule, but they have far too many holes in that lineup for me to ever think they would hold on.

I don't know why it's such a stretch to think that a team with no real veteran presence, a lineup filled with a bunch of feast-or-famine hitters that play hopscotch with the Mendoza line, and a rotation filled with guys that were clearly going to set career highs in IP would have problems holding off clubs that have deep lineups filled with veterans and playoff experience. The hot start simply masked the fact that they really are just a .500 club.

I'm sure you won't believe me, and that's fine. I'm not much on lying, especially over a game.
