Yes I know. Someone would occasionally bump that same quote of his when he'd come up big throughout the season.

Excited about next year. Really interested to see what we do this off season. The rotation should be really good. Assuming everyone is healthy it should be a strength. We need to strengthen the bats.

I agree 100%. That bat flip towards the Rangers dugout should not be forgotten by the pitching staff.

Does Cliff Lee have any gas in the tank? I think he would come in for a year to pitch with Cole again.

Well, to his defense, coming into the year Mitch hadn't had much of a career and quite frankly did get too many at bats for the production he was giving the team, which was little to none.

And yes, he had a better season and performed better than some guys be Mitch is a first baseman. If he doesn't, especially given the holes the Rangers have elsewhere, you have a real problem.

He was still borderline mediocre this season and if you can finally find a taker, you have to consider getting selling high and getting rid of him.

The same problem as the Rangers have had continues, though, I think...most of the league has a Mitch Moreland already.

This. Would solve the left field and RH bat problems and allow Hamilton to be a fourth outfielder as well as give Fielder a spell at DH from time to time.

I mentioned Cliff Lee a week or so ago.

He went down with another injury and will be a FA.

I'd like to see them sign him for 2 year rehab. I don't think he'll be much for anything until mid-season and by then, he'll have pitched so little the past 2-3 years that you are really hoping for a 2017 value.

Mitch is a career .250 hitter who didn't put up a single season WAR above 1.0 until this season. I loved watching him this year but this is probably as good as it gets for him and if you can sell reasonably high then you jump for it. Gallo is more than capable of putting up those same numbers in the big leagues and he has a much higher ceiling. Get his swing right in the offseason and park him at 1B.

Cespedes is my number 1 target. You may have a future Chris Davis in Gallo already. Maybe resign Gallardo to be your 4/5.

According to COTS, we are sitting at $119M for 10 signed players in 2016, not including Arb & Serfs. This is net allocated, which considers money picked up by other teams for Hamilton, Fielder, etc. We were at $141M for 2015.

Gone:

Napoli - FA
Gallardo - FA. Likely turns down a Qualifying offer.
Stubbs - FA
Venable - FA
Colby Lewis - FA. His non-GS in playoffs indicates he is not a priority.
Ohlendorf - FA. He could be re-signed.

Infield
3B: Beltre (36) - .287 \ 18 HR \ .334 OBP
SS: Andrus (27) - .258 \ 16 HR \ .309 OBP
2B: Odor (21) - .261 \ 16 HR \ .316 OBP
1B: Moreland (30) - .278 \ 23 HR \ .330 OBP
DH: Fielder - .305 \ 23 HR \ .378 OBP

It is fun to think about Andrus being gone, but he keeps the clubhouse loose and I think he is much more the clubhouse presence than anyone realizes. That being said, I think our IF is still pretty strong. Beltre's option for 2016 was picked up at the beginning of 2015. I think he is on the verge of so many records, and he has shown so much durability and has delivered even injured. I don't know if Fielder can become a regular 1B... I don't think so.

Others:
Hanser Alberto (22) - I think he'll solidify the Utility IF role. He could then slip into being a trade candidate. Or could benefit from a trade. Could Delino DeShields be a MIF?
Jurickson Profar (22) - He begins the Az Fall league which begins this week:

Outfield
LF: ?
CF: DeShields (23-RHB) - .261 \ 2 HR \ 25 SB
RF: Choo (33-LHB) - .276 \ 22 HR \ .375 OBP

Others:
Hamilton (LHB)
Leonys Martin (LHB)

This is where fluidity sits. What we don't know is if Hamilton will have a relapse or if he gets "healthy." Whatever "healthy" looks like. Martin could return. He has a great arm for CF and plays pretty good defense. Choo and DeShields seem to be solid, after the way they finished the season. I think LF is up for grabs. It could be Hamilton. It could be Mazara... could be Brinson. See below. They are both primed for 2016.

Catcher (2)
C: Gimenez (32)- .255
C: Chirinos (31) - .232
Wilson; Corporan

We have four catchers. There could be some horse trading.

Pitching
Starting (5)
SP: Hamels (31-LHP), Perez (24-LHP), Holland (29-LHP)
Considerations:
Chi Chi (23-RHP): 10 GS \ 14 GP \ 67.0 IP \ 3.90 ERA \ 1.21 WHIP
Luke Jackson (24-RHP)

DL: Darvish
DL: Nick Martinez (Arb 1 in 2017)
DL: Nick Tepesch
DL: Claudio

I think we have 3 solid. Maybe Holland is healthy?! Yu will be added mid-season. Chi Chi might be able to be a 5th. As in years past, we could play the fill-the-gap roles. We could get 4 weeks or so of a Luke Jackson or Nick.

Relief (6)
RH RP:
Tolleson (Arb 1 in 2016)
Dyson (Serf?)
Keone Kela (Serf?)

LH RP:
Diekman (Arb 1 in 2016)
Freeman (Arb 1 in 2017)

Others:
Scheppers (Arb 1 in 2016)

How solid is our Relief?! I think we have 5 solids. We have a number of guys who can step in. Some newly signed (Tate, Matuella) as well as some guys that have been around.

Prospect considerations for 2016:
3B\OF Gallo (21-LHB)
OF Rua (25-RHB)
OF Mazara (20-LHB) - .296 \ 14 HR in Frisco (AA) and RR (AAA)
OF Brinson (21-RHP) - .332 \ 20 HR \ 18 SB in A+, AA & AAA

Summary: I think we could trade some pieces, but all-in-all, we should keep our powder dry and go into the season with the core of what we have. I think we can trade off some depth, and get some players to help... or just get deeper with prospects. Hopefully Gallardo gets a Qualifying Offer and we get a pick out of it.

We are looking for:
Potentially an Outfielder, but not really: DeShields-Leonys-Choo \ Bench: Hamilton-Brinson
No IF: We could move any number of players, but not acquire anything.
No C: We'll trade off.
Possible #5 SP, but unlikely.
Possible RP, but unlikely. Filled internally.

I envision the Rangers to come out of the gate with a better record in April-May (than in 2015). We'll reach the ASB and hopefully we can fill any holes internally or with trades.

No room nor interest in Davis. You already have Fielder and Moreland. Davis will likely get his exception for Adderall, but you could get get just about anything from him from ugly to decent to HoF numbers.

No room nor interest in Cespedes. He had a good year (.291\35 HR), but a career .271\25 HR type guy. Leonys gives you more speed and less power, but at a much more affordable cost. At 29, Cespedes will look for a 4-5 year deal. I think this was a contract year and he likely was juicing and I want no part of his return to reality.

You have
Choo signed through like 2020 (5 more years @ $21M per?)
DeShields as a serf and Arb for like ever.

Hamilton costs you like $2M per year for 2 more years. Releasing him isn't the end of the world.

Brinson could be the next OF for Texas and he'll get Serf money. Mazara will challenge him. Gallo will likely be in the mix in LF. All 3 of them are Serfs.

Now, if the Rangers could trade for Matt Kemp (Owed $18.25 per for 4 years by SD) & James Shields ($21M per for next 4 years), I'd be interested in that. Especially if we could get SD to pay some of that.

Also, my number above for 2016 includes Harrison's $13M

Hamilton should only be considered as a bench player at this point. Too injury prone and well past his prime. Leonys will never play again for the Rangers in my opinion. He got his panties in a wad that he wasn't on the playoff roster and didn't report to Arizona. I think he is gone.

We can dream of getting Justin Upton or Cespedes, but they will likely command a ton of money in free agency. Upton will be a $20 million dollar player, and I bet the mets will throw tons of money out to keep Cespedes.

You might see something like a 2 year deal to get a guy like Ben Zobrist. Dexter Fowler is out there if you want a CF, but he will likely get paid more than he is worth. Fowler would probably want more years than the Rangers would want.

I suppose there is some chance of signing Chris Davis and then packaging Moreland in a trade for an outfielder. Maybe Moreland, Hamilton and a prospect or two could return something of value. I don't know if the Rangers would have the funds to take on all that salary though.

Would love to have Davis over Moreland. Davis may have a lower basement than Mitch, but Chris has the higher ceiling.
