Got an email today about class action settlement. As a result, MLB TV is going down about $20/month. In addition you can buy a single team for $80 something. With that you can watch them even if in a blackout area.

So... If I'm an Astros fan living in CS, would I be able to watch them without blackouts?

That's how I read it.

The following Club(s) is within the searched home television territory, and is subject to MLB.TV blackouts in the U.S. for all live regular season games:

  • Texas Rangers
  • Houston Astros

Approximate Zip Code: 77845

I assume Root Sports will carry the Astros again this year since they have a 'Looking Forward to the 2016 Season' show on later this month.

Re-reading I read it wrong originally. This will help with price but not blackout issues for many of you.

This part is nice though:
Follow Your Team: MLB will allow all MLB.TV purchasers who subscribe to Comcast, DIRECTV, or certain other cable, satellite or other providers to purchase a "Follow Your Team" option that will allow them to receive telecasts of their favorite out-of-market team's broadcaster without any blackouts-even when it is playing an in-market team, so long as the purchaser receives the in-market team's programming through his or her television service. This product will cost no more than $10 more than a standard MLB.TV package, which will raise the overall price of the MLB.TV package to $119.99 for a full season in 2016 for consumers selecting this enhancement.

THE SETTLEMENT - WHAT YOU GET AND GIVE UP IF YOU QUALIFY
What does the Settlement provide?
  • Price Relief
  • MLB will lower the price of MLB.TV to $109.99 for 2016 (from the 2015 price of $129.99). MLB will be prohibited from increasing the price by more than 3% (or the federal COLA, if higher) per year through 2020.
  • For the 2016 and 2017 MLB seasons, Comcast and DIRECTV will provide the full season MLB Extra Innings product at a 12.5% discount from the 2015 price.
  • Increased Availability
  • Single-Team Packages: MLB will offer packages of single teams' out-of-market games through MLB.TV (for example, a stream of just the Kansas City Royals' games for out-of-market subscribers). This product will cost $84.99 for a full season in 2016, with MLB allowed to raise the price by no more than 3% (or COLA, if higher) for each of the next four years. MLB has also agreed to make this option available to Comcast and DIRECTV so that they may offer unbundled seasonal packages of single team games for each and every MLB Club available through MLB Extra Innings, although Comcast and DIRECTV are not obligated to offer such packages.
  • Follow Your Team: MLB will allow all MLB.TV purchasers who subscribe to Comcast, DIRECTV, or certain other cable, satellite or other providers to purchase a "Follow Your Team" option that will allow them to receive telecasts of their favorite out-of-market team's broadcaster without any blackouts-even when it is playing an in-market team, so long as the purchaser receives the in-market team's programming through his or her television service. This product will cost no more than $10 more than a standard MLB.TV package, which will raise the overall price of the MLB.TV package to $119.99 for a full season in 2016 for consumers selecting this enhancement.
  • In-Market Streaming: MLB will seek to reach agreements with Comcast, Root Sports, and Fox regional sports networks to offer in-market streaming of their live baseball telecasts. If in-market streaming is not available for all of the teams whose games are broadcast by those networks by 2017, MLB will be prohibited from increasing prices for any of the above MLB.TV products through 2020.
  • Unserved Fans: MLB will offer live streaming of any in-market team's telecasts produced by Comcast, Root Sports, or Fox regional sports networks to any customer who is unable to obtain multi-channel video provider distributor service or virtual multi-channel video provider distributor service at his or her residence.

Im an astros fan living in seattle.

Last year the Astros Mariners games were the only ones blacked out, and it appears they will likely still be blacked out on the full option? Or is this saying I will be able to watch them on the app now as well?

With the single team option, I can still watch all the Astros games (except when they play the mariners)? Any other differences, aside from playoff games (which were blacked out anyways last year for me).

From they way it's worded, if you buy the single team plan then You can watch the Astros when they're at Safeco assuming you pay for the tv channel that the Mariners play on regularly.

Don't worry. You'll get to see them 19 times when they play the Rangers, who are on Suddenlink every night, and have been for many years.

Got the email too. The single team option seems to expensive to be worth while. Might as well pay s little more for everything. I also enjoy watching west coast games at night or others during the pennant chase.

I got the single team option this year. I don't watch anyone but the Cubs, so worked out well.

Doesn't this include Astros fans in CS? Is there a channel offered on local cable to serve this?

I think it is going to be very popular. Most only have it to watch one team. I know I'm getting it.

I don't understand what that means.

I read it as if you cannot get a TV provider that offers ROOT then you can stream it through MLB. But what area wouldn't be able to get satellite service?

    1. Get MLB.TV single team option.
    2. https://www.unblock-us.com/, $4.99 per month... use their instructions to set up your router.
    3. Watch Astros in blackout zone on a Roku.
    4. Profit.

If you're going to pay $5/month to circumvent the area restriction, you could pay a token amount more and just get a streaming service for it all.

^ done this for the last 2 seasons. It's wonderful after years of not watching Astros. Still haven't decided between single and full though. Not that much more, and if you play fantasy baseball it's nice. Also, Playoffs.

Can you explain to me what you mean by this? Would love to watch the Astros like I do the Aggies through my AppleTV.

My apologies, I'm a technological child!

If you're not that technically inclined it's probably not worth it... but lets just say if you dive into a Google search there are more than a handful of very good services out there that will stream everything you'd want for a very reasonable monthly-rate.

Obviously not legal, but neither is circumventing local blackout restrictions with a proxy so it's kind of one of those things that you have to decide for yourself.

I'd pay MLB/Rangers $100/year solely to watch Texas Rangers games... But I can't... So I went elsewhere.

Random question about MLB audio if anyone knows:

Is it still subject to local blackouts? Below link says it isn't then has all the blackout info below. I figure $20 is pretty good to be able to listen to all games if I can listen to Rangers/Astros.

An FYI for probably the 2 T-MOBILE customers that will read this thread, but t-mobile customers can get a free MLB.TV premium subscription for the season if you sign up through April 10th.

Edited to add: There already is another thread on this page with the necessary links. See that thread.

Wanted to get MLB.TV so I could watch the Astros & former teammates play this year...buuuuut, the Astros are blacked out. Guess I'll have to find another way.

I'll gladly pay MLB.TV and just get my parents DTV login and watch the Rangers when that option is available. Using a DNS unblocker is a gigantic pain in the ass and sometimes doesn't work at all, and isn't really portable.

So when is this follow your team coming?
