Why isn't he the Rangers closers yet? He has filthy stuff. Tolleson is a bum I get worried every time he comes in.

Would've loved to see him go back out for the ninth. Don't agree with "going by the book" there. Although, Dyson hasn't look as dominant when he comes back out for a second inning and beyond.

I'm not a fan of Tolleson as a closer, but if you're trying to get the guy's confidence back in save situations then last night was probably the best spot to do it in... 3 run lead, at home, bottom of the Astros lineup.

Tolleson has been really solid. I personally love having Dyson available to come into high leverage situations in earlier innings (7-8th) where a groundball is needed or a tough right handed hitter is up. Such a great weapon to have. Closer designation is way overrated.

Maybe I'm alone on this, but I much prefer individual threads on topics of interest. The idea that we need a single thread for all Rangers discussion all year is the worst recent development in this board over the last couple of years. Way to difficult to have a real conversation on something on there, when the discussion can be all over the place on in-game moments to theoretically strategy talks like this. I wish we had more individual threads like used to be more common a few years ago.

This. The save stat as it is now is useless, as is the "closer" role. Teams with a 3 run lead in the 9th win 99.9 percent of the time, 97.1 percent of the time with a one run lead in 9th as well.

Save your best pitcher for the highest leverage ABs, the game can be saved in the 7th when the starter leaves with a two run lead and two on with 1 out. Those pitches mean much more than a clean slate 1-2-3 9th inning.

That at bat by Dyson illustrates my point pretty well I'd say
